My Alter Ego as a Craft Maker

Not only do I love to write as "Ohthethinksyouwillthink", I also love to get crafty and creative. Some of those creations end up online on Etsy under my store name, Crafter86.

This page is the stories behind the crafts... a little peek at how and why I make the crafts I do.
Enjoy!

The Best Part

The best part about crafting for me, is making something truly unique and truly special for someone else.

Putting a smile on someone's face is the best part. And seeing one is the mark of a job well done.

Puppets Puppets and More Puppets

My love for puppets came about when I was 13 years old. I took a puppetry module at my summer camp where I learned some of the basic tricks of the trade, and got to make my very own hand puppet. From that moment on, I was hooked.

Taking what I had learned, I began making puppets of my own. This spilled into making costumes and props... soon, I was writing scripts, making the puppets and other items, recruiting fellow puppeteers, and performing shows for the children at my church. There was nothing quite like huddling under a sheet in that musty old building and hearing the laughter of small children as I taught them about God's love and brought smiles to their faces.

I try to share that love today by continuing to make puppets. A puppet can touch a heart just as much as it touches the funnybone... I see puppet making as a chance to bring joy to people's lives, both young and old.

Finger Puppets are Fun Too!

Disciple's Cross

The Disciple's Cross necklaces are a new project for me. They are made by bending nails and wrapping them with wire. It's been fun to learn a new type of craft and share my faith at the same time.

Here's the story behind the Disciple's Cross:

The Disciple's Cross (TM) started out as a camp craft project for teens, and was made famous by Pastor John Raymond when he wore this handmade necklace on Survivor Thailand.

The crosses are made up of three distinct components. The simulated leather cord reminds us of the leather straps used to beat our Saviour; the wrapped wire stands for the thorn branches twisted into a crown to mock the King of Kings; and the nails represent the large spikes that were driven into the hands and feet of the Lord of Lords.

Quilts

I first learned the basics of quilt-making in college while volunteering at MCC (Mennonite Central Committee).

MCC collects blankets as well as several other material goods and distributes them worldwide to disaster areas and others in need.

I have fallen in love with the mission of MCC and still make blankets for them today.
