Etsy and Google Base

Help drive traffic and sales to your Etsy Shop for free! Get your Etsy Shop items to the top of Google search results. Google Base is a service that lets you "tell" Google about what you have for sale. After your items have been uploaded to Google Base, your products will appear on Google Product Search and may even be displayed on Google.com, depending on your items' relevance.

This lens will show you how to set up your Google Base account. I've created two new lenses to show you two different ways to prepare your data feeds; either using the Etsy Shop Feeds or Let's Ets, links to those lenses are below.

I already had a Googlebase account set up when these print screens and instructions were done. If you are setting everything up for the first time, they may be slightly different or in a different order, but should be close enough for you to follow.

Google Base vs. Google Product Search?

What's the difference between Google Base and Google Product Search?

Google Product Search is Google's online shopping search engine. Google Product Search helps shoppers find and buy products across the web. As a seller, you can submit your products to Google Product Search, allowing shoppers to quickly and easily find your Etsy Shop.

Google Base is a free Google service that allows you to easily submit and publish your Etsy listings for inclusion in Google search results.

In summary, to include your products in searches on Google Product Search and even the main Google web search, you must submit your information to Google Base. Make sense now?

Ok, so you'll need a Google Account in order to submit anything to Google Base. Once you've signed up for one (which, by the way, gives you access to all of Google's services), you can start uploading content to Google Base.

If you don't have a Google Account * gasp *, you can sign up here.

The Four Basic Steps

To "upload" your Etsy Shop listings to Google Base, you have to do the following four basic steps:

1. Register a Google account and set up your Google Base account (only have to do this once).

2. Prepare a Data Feed (either using Let's Ets or Etsy Shop Feeds)

3. Register your data file

4. Upload your data file

Before you go any further, take a deep breath!

Just go through and follow the instructions slowly, take your time.

Google Base Account Settings

Sign in to Google Base

Click on the "Settings" tab.

Complete your information in each field; Display Name, Description, Website URL (which is your Etsy Shop URL).

Note: you must enter your Etsy shop's URL in the "Website URL" section or the upload you will be doing later, will fail.

When finished, click on "Save Changes".

If you are setting up your Googlebase account for the first time, you will have a "next" button to bring you to Registering your Data Feeds.

At this point, you will have to decide if you are going to use the Etsy Shop Feeds or third party Let's Ets (see tutorials below) for further instructions.

Etsy Shop Feeds Tutorial

Have a Second Etsy Shop?

If you have two shops, you will have to have two google accounts!

You can definitely prepare a data feed file for the second shop, but you can't upload items from another Etsy shop, or it will fail.

So just go and register a second Google account and set up the Google Base settings for your second Etsy Shop.

Need Help?

There's always someone very smart and friendly to help out on the Etsy Forums who can probably answer your questions much faster and better than I can.

Drop by the Business Topics forum.

Before you start a new post, check existing threads, you may find your question already answered.

I sure have a lot to learn but still like the method in which you lay out things. It's perfect for me with my condition and also not being so hot on a PC. Thank you.
