Azzurri kicked off Donadoni

It is the end for Roberto Donadoni as a national coach for Italy. After the lost of Azzurri in quarterfinal Euro 2008, FIGC made an official announcement that it will be the end for Donadoni as a coach. FIGC has to make announcement earlier because too many rumors already spread out in media about the future of Donadoni. As posted in this blog before, Donadoni and FIGC already signed a contract with an extra point that Donadoni must accept the decision of FIGC if he failed in Euro 2008.

Even though, FIGC hasn't decided who will be replacing the place of Donadoni as a coach, but public and media already make a prediction that FIGC will call Marcello Lippi. The rumor is getting stronger after a local media found Lippi in middle of meeting with Abete. Marcello Lippi was a national coach for Italy when he successfully brought Italy to win a World Cup trophy in 2006. Lippi was also famous in Juventus after giving them five trophies in 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2003.

Grazie Van Basten

Netherlands proves their commitment for not giving an easy game on their last match. This last game has no affect on the result as the leader of Group C. The squad of Marco van Basten has beaten Romania 2-0 from the goal of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (54') and Robin van Persie (87').

The success of Netherlands over Romania has given a good fortune for Italy who were almost packing their bag early. Italy also earned a good winning against France with 2-0. The first goal was from penalty, executed by Andre Pirlo 25 minutes of the game. While the second goal made by Danielle De Rossi on 62nd minutes from a free kick.

France must played with 10 men after Eric Abidal received a red card because of hard tackle against Luca Toni in forbidden area. Before that, France must suffered loosing Franck Ribery because of knee injury just 7 minutes of the first half.

The loss of Azzurri

A surprising result showed in the first match of group C, when Netherlands wins 3 goals over Italy. The coach of Azzurri, Donadoni, must find the solution for his team if they still want to play in Euro 2008. When Donadoni announced the final squad for Azzurri, many medias already discussed on so many strikers in Italian squad. Six players from 23 players are strikers. Some medias said that Donadoni wants to change the philosophy of Italian players who are famous with their typical defensive play.

In order to change this culture, Donadoni must change the formation of Italy from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3. With this new formation, it looks like Donadoni expects his team to attack more. Italian squad has showed this new formation when they did a friendly match against Belgium and wins 3-1.

The other reason Donadoni changed his strategy is because the stock of Italian defenders like Marco Materazzi, Fabio Cannavaro and Gianluca Zambrotta are not young anymore.

The new strategy was working nicely when they met Belgium in friendly match but not workable for Netherlands. All people around the world, especially Azzurri's fans will pay attention on the next strategy from Donadoni for their second match against Romania. If Donadoni wants to keep the attacking strategy, then they need full and more organized attack when they meet Romania to keep them in tournament.

Host countries lost on the first match

The privilege to be a host country is not giving any advantage for Austria and Switzerland in Euro 2008. Switzerland must admit the superiority of their opponent by losing 1 goal with Czechoslovakia on the first match of Group A. And now, Austria must experience the same. Another one goal lost for the host in front of their own audiences.

Croatia proof themselves a better team on the first match of Group B in Ernst Happel stadium. The only goal for Croatia made by Luca Modric from free kick. Penalty was given by the Dutch referee Peter Vink after Rene Aufhauser tackled Ivica Olic in penalty area.

After losing one goal, Austria was trying to catch up the score. It was recorded nine times shot on goals from Austrian players, but it didn't give any goal for Austria until the last whistle. Austria must work harder when they meet Poland on the next match. If they lose, then Austria must say goodbye to Quarterfinal.

France in Euro 2008

France is never absent in international events and always gives their best fight. France already collected two trophies in Euro 1984 and 2000. In Euro 2008, they will be looking for another trophy this year. Unfortunately, France needs to work hard to achieve their goal this year. The drawing's result shows France will join the nightmare group along with Italy, Netherlands and Romania.

Raymond Domenech must find a good strategy to bring his team to the next round. In order to do it, the coach has arranged to have trial matches against Ecuador, Paraguay and Colombia. The three rivals in group C have similar character with South American teams. They play with short passing and depend on individual skills.

Besides finding a suitable strategy for his team, Domenech has good players to support his mission like Bafetimbi Gomis the striker of Saint-Etienne, Karim Benzema from Lyon, Florent Malouda who's coming from Chelsea and not forgotten the Barcelona's striker Thierry Henry. In midfield, France has the playmaker from Bayern Munchen Franck Ribery. While the players in defending area, there are famous names like Lilian Thuram, William Gallas and Phillipe Mexes. Can they get out from the nightmare group this year?
