Eurobasket - European championship
Eurobasket is European basketball competition, organised by FIBA, also called European Basketball Championship. This is the biggest contest between mens national teams. It happens every second year.
First Eurobasket was in 1935. Since 1947 competitions were held every second year without any disturbance. Up to now, two nations were the moat succesfull: Soviet Union (fourteen titles) and ex Yugoslavia (5 titles).
Last three champions are:
Greece - 2005 in Serbia and Montenegro
Russia - 2007 in Spain
Spain - 2009 in Poland
This year Eurobasket will be in Lithuania from 31. Avgust, when the qualification round begins, until 18. September with the Finals in the Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas.

On sunday 5th December FIBA anounced host for Eurobasket 2013.

Eurobasket competition format
Preliminary round: four groups of four teams, each play by each. First three teams proceed.
Qualifying round: two groups join together and each team play with all new teams. The point from preliminary round count also. First four teams proceed to the next stage.
Knockout stage: First placed team from first joined group, plays with forth team from second joined group. Second placed plays with third from other group and so on. Winners proceed to next round. Quarter finals, semifinals and final game to decide the winner.

Participant of 2010 FIBA World Championship: Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, Turkey
Qualifying Round: Belgium, Great Britain, Israel, Macedonia, Montenegro
FIBA Europe decision: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine
Two more teams will get qualified in August 2011.
