Eurovision Song Contest: The United Kingdom Annual Report

A lookback at the songs that have represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest since it first entered the competition in 1957.

Truly a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Enjoy!

Terry Wogan Hints At UK Pulling Out of ESC

UK commentator, Terry Wogan, hints at the United Kingdom pulling out of the Eurovision Song Contest, along with other Western European countries, due to blatant friendly and political voting by the former Eastern Bloc nations.

Your View!

Some share the view that political and friendly voting has now ruined the Eurovision Song Contest and that Western nations, like the UK, have no chance of ever winning again.

Do you agree with Terry Wogan that it may now be time to leave?

Do You Think the UK Should Now Withdraw?

Yes, leave now!

Graham Stephenson says:

The contest is now a farce. It is not about the songs but who you are allied to.

Tom Bartram, Caerffili says:

The Eurovision used to be a wonderful institution but now it's gone too many countries, too English and completely lost all of its charm. Whatever happened to Ding DingaDong, A Ba Ni Bi A Ba Ni Be, and the live orchestra?

Robert says:

I been looking at the history of the Eerovision song contest since the UK first enterd the contest And have been very successful but now the is very Polictol the Only part of western europe that has had some success is scandernavia and i think that UK has no chocise to pull out.

Jason says:

How much does it cost for the UK to enter Eurovision each year? Who pays? Would you call this year good value for money?

No, the UK needs to stay!

nickupton says:

Who cares who wins? I just enjoy watching all the strange entries from all around Europe.

Anyway, I don't believe in potitical voting. Would Bosnia vote for Serbia because they love their ethnic-cleansing neighbours or because the song is in a language they can understand?

Emma says:

I don't think the UK should withdraw, but I think the competition should be divided into eastern and western Europe. It's too big now, and blatant bias voting from the Eastern bloc countries is turning Eurovision into a competition of political posturing. Have a cut-off boundary - all countries from Austria west in one division and east of Austria in another. Then we might once again have some beautiful music and a fun competition, just like in the 1970s and 80s.

A great decade for the UK - eight Top 4 placings. Perhaps Co-Co should have placed higher, but Black Lace was instantly forgettable...the video for this song is truly awful, perhaps a little worse than the song.

Dreadful 2009 song. Can't Jade learn to breathe without huffing and puffing into the microphone. Another boring flop on the way for the UK.

Incidentally, seeing Bucks Fizz there, am I the only person who thinks their 1982 hit The Land Of Make Believe was a piece of subtle genius?
