Eurythmics: Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

One of the defining bands of the Eighties pop scene was Eurythmics. Annie Lennox has, perhaps, one of the most sublime and uplifting voices of any female singer over the last twenty five years.

It came as something of a surprise to learn that a quarter of a century has passed since we first heard that powerfully sequenced synth bass line and watched the striking video to Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) which introduced the infamous orange crew cut of Annie Lennox. Yes, it was 1983, when Michael Jackson, Culture Club, David Bowie and The Police were also doing their thing and MTV had not long started to bring 24 hour music into American homes.

Over that time, many of the popular acts from this era have faded from view, but Annie Lennox's unique voice has continued to thrill fans around the world, either as a solo artist or as part of the incomparable Eurythmics.

So sit back and enjoy a journey back in time to the 1980s (and beyond) with the sound of Eurythmics.

Before Eurythmics, There Was

The Tourists

The Tourists were a moderately successful British pop band, but are better known for two of their members (Annie Lennox & David A. Stewart) who went on to achieve superstardom as Eurythmics.

Here is a time capsule of three of their most successful songs from 1979 and 1980. Within months of the disintegration of The Tourists, Eurythmics were formed and the rest is history.

Love the Eurythmics! You've been very busy putting together some needed lenses. Welcome to the Squid-Groovy Group and as always, rock-on.

I've Got a Life

Eurythmics 2005 Comeback Single

You can't keep a great voice down and to prove it Annex Lennox (together with Dave Stewart) bounced back with another sublime single during 2005.

"I've Got a Life" returned Eurythmics to the Top 40 in the UK for the twenty-fourth time, hitting number 14 on the UK singles chart.

The song was also released as a digital download in the United States, although dance remixes were issued on vinyl to nightclub DJs. The track spent three weeks at No.1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart at the end of 2005 and reached No.31 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart.
