Eva Cassidy: the life, sounds, songs and music of a Songbird

Eva Cassidy - the Songbird
I first heard Eva Cassidy in late 2006 and I was blown away with the purity of her voice. I immediately bought some of her albums and singles and I have enjoyed many hours of pleasure listening to her on my Ipod and my computer. Eva died at the age of 33 in 1996 of a melanoma and has only been discovered since her death. Many great songwriters and musicians have acclaimed her music. I am writing this lens as a tribute to Eva's legacy. I hope you too enjoy the clarity, the depth and the beauty of her music. Eva's music is truly inspiring and very moving.

Fields of Gold
"A lot of people have covered my songs. And it's a strange emotion, you know, because your own songs are like your own babies. I mean you might hear someone reinterpreting them and maybe you don't agree with what they've done. But this version was just so pure, so excellent, that I was deeply moved by it, and so happy that she covered it. Eva's is one of the best versions of my song I've ever heard...There is something about her voice - a quality - that you can't really put into words. It's a magical quality. People respond to its purity. It suggests something ethereal-- something unattainable." [Source: YouTube]

It also inspired some stunning video tributes like the one below.
Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Tribute to the Extraordinary Eva Cassidy ~ I discovered the profound beauty and talent of Eva Cassidy just recently while recovering from surgery. Laptop surfing, I was searching for something to take my mind off the emotional anguish and physical pain of my recent wounds. Somehow I stumbled across the videos of Eva Cassidy's Live performance at Blues Alley. From her first notes, I was stunned and captivated. And comforted. Her musical selection, interpretation, range, enunciation, sustaining notes, phrasing, rich timbre and vocal acrobatics are exquisitely overwhelming. Her power and softness are a constant marvel. Her delivery is perfection. The sheer beauty of her music reaches very deep inside me and yet simultaneously transports me far beyond myself. It is rather foolish to do what I've just done (and have never before felt compelled to do); put together a simple, inadequate slide show. Especially when we are blessed with the great and haunting footage of Eva's live performance at Blues Alley. But it is my humble, yet passionate thank you to Eva Cassidy for sharing her unforgettable music, art and spirit. Her voice is a conduit to something bigger, more profound and extraordinary than words can express. My heartfelt appreciation goes to Barbara and Hugh Cassidy for bringing Eva into our world and to Chris Biondo for believing in Eva and making it possible for us to still hear her. Here's my first $7 e-book. It is 40 pages of "how-to-do" information about creating and marketing Squidoo lenses.

- Love Eva's voice... Sad that she died so young, terrible disease, Melanoma, and on the rise it appears. It affects so many young people... I find Eva's music very moving. Music makes such an impact on us humanbeings. Appreciated your comments on my depression lens, and I will indeed write some more on how music can affect our mood and indeet our intelligence...
