Evenings 4 Two in the Triangle
Great ideas for great nights out.
Fetching RSS feed... please stand bySuggestions for Hole-in-the Wall article
Working on a new article for Southern Neighbor about great hole-in-the-wall restaurants. You know, restaurants that look a little scary on the outside but have great authentic food inside. (I'm leaning towards ethinic as a focus) I'd love to get some suggestions to try for the story.
It's all about the pairing.
Not the food and the wine, but the restaurant and the activity. If you're like me (have small children) you don't get to have that many uninterrupted conversations with the person who at one time was your favorite person to talk to in the whole world. So why not squeeze every last minute out of your precious babysitter time and pair dinner with another activity that allows you to talk and reconnect? What's your favorite date night in the Triangle?
A few of my date night faves.
This part is still a WIP.
- Elaine's on Franklin
- It's gotten pricey, but for wildly inventive dishes and eclectic flavors it's the best around. Loft like atmosphere. Pair with the West End Wine Bar. Great for special nights out.
- West End Wine Bar
- Cool, dark, intimate if you go early. Gets hopping late when the college crowd appears. Wines by the taste, glass or bottle. Great selection. Approachable format. Knowledgeable staff. Great place to start an evening out.
- Provence
- Love the outdoor seating. Order the fish, it's the chef's specialty.
- Spice Street
- Wine Wednesday = $4 glasses of wine. Their starter plate of fresh grilled pita bread and roasted red pepper dipping sauce is free. Sometimes we go here to start and then head elsewhere for dinner. Other times,
- Vin Rouge
- Romantic setting. Feels like a neighborhood bistro/brasserie in Paris. Authentic, delicious food. Pair it with a stop at independently owned Regulator Bookshop. Both in Durham on 9th Street.
- Lantern
- Named on of Gourmet Magazine's Top 50 Restaurants. Asian inspired. Chef owned. Local ingredients. Kickin' black-out bar in back.
