Be on the lookout for money making opportunities - Always!
To succeed as a party promoter, you need to really desire the opportunity to make money. You need to be proactive and think out of the box. Always be on the lookout for opportunities, from organising an event for a seemingly insignificant occasion like the Spring Break to an eye catching Year End Bash. The chance to make the extra buck is just around the corner if you just keep a lookout.
You need to find any and every opportunity to expand your circle of friend. Remember. The more friends you have, the larger your pool of potential customers.
Loyal Customers
Many promoters do not realize it but it takes 5 times as much to attract a new customer than it does to maintain a present customer. To enable you to run a hugely successful party at very low cost (which translates to high margins), you need to obtain and maintain a key group of loyal customers who will attend all your parties.
Here are some ways to start your own fan club of loyal customers:
- Make an effort to remember your regulars by their names. It'll make your customers feel special. And everyone loves to feel special.
- Treat everyone like a VIP. Be it the coolest guy on the block or the geekiest nerd.
- Go the extra mile. There is never any traffic jam on the extra mile so whenever possible, show your customers that you care about them and not just their money. If you see a regular very drunk and attempting to drive, offer to pay for a cab to send him home instead. Small gestures like these will be remembered.
- Introduce your VIPs (especially the newer ones) to other VIPs. Everyone's there to have a good time so why not everyone party together! The more at home your customer feels, the more likely he will return
- Once in a while, offer to buy your customers drinks, one your tab. To show them that you appreciate their support.
- When you realise that there is a queue coming into the club, take a quick peek outside to see if you can spot some of your regulars amongst the queue and bring them up in front. The is possibly the most valuable and yet cheapest CRM strategy.
Good promotional strategies
- Personalised email marketing. You will be surprised at the power of viral marketing. Get a designer to do up an attractive and funky emailer and email it out to everyone on your database. You will be surprised at the rate at which emails are being forwarded.
Whenever possible, try to personalize your email instead of one without salutation or a generic "Dear Sir".
- Word of mouth is possibly the most widely used form of promotion. Basically, the more friends you have or make, the larger the group of likely customers to your party. And if you are popular, the chances are even better.
However that said, even if you don't have a single friend, you will still be able to throw great parties. Patrons at parties for 2 reasons. To be with their friends and/or to have a good time. If you do not have the former, you must ensure that you can deliver a good time.
- Setup a website where your customers can check in to find out about upcoming parties. Include that website address in all your collaterals, from emailer to letterheads, email signatures and even your namecards.
- Getting them to come back - whenever you see a new customer at your party, go up to the customer and introduce yourself. Win that person over to your "fan club". The more loyal customers you have, the better the turnout at your parties, the more successful your party will be and the more money you will make!
- Leverage on social networking sites. Often overlooked, the power of the social networking sites like facebook, myspace, friendster, etc is incredible. Ensure that you've setup an account in each of the sites.
- Using IM - leverage on the nicks in your MSN Messenger, GoogleTalk, Yahoo Messenger or Skype to promote your party.
- Traditional methods of advertising like flyers and advertisements in the local newspapers are still one of the greatest crowd puller.
