Ever After - A Cinderella Story

A Cinderella for a New Generation

Ever After is a retelling of the Cinderella story with a bit of a twist. This 16th Century Cinderella a.k.a. Danielle, played by Drew Barrymore is beautiful as well as intelligent.

This new Cinderella is a victim of ill-fated circumstances. Somehow she still manages, despite the odds, to rise above it all, change her fate and and her destiny and soar.

In Danielle, director Andy Tennan created a positive role model for today's young girls and women...a woman who is beautiful, adventurous, strong, smart and most of all a survivor.

She is a wonderful role model to share with my daughters.

Why I Love Ever After

Ever After: A Cinderella Story [Blu-ray]

Amazon Price: $10.06 (as of 02/17/2012)Buy Now

I like Danielle because she is a new and improved Cinderella. This Cinderella speaks her mind. She is a woman not likely to stay at home and wait for her prince to come and rescue her. She is likely to go and figure out a way to solve her problems without him and rescue herself.

As an empowered woman, Danielle is a much better role positive model for today's young girls.

Ever After is a movie that I have shared with my young daughters to teach them how to you can be a strong 'princess.'

I won't tell u the rest... darling movie.

Ever After is in my top 5 favorite movies. I have purchased this movie about 5 different times over the years. As love stories go this movie is the best especially for those of us who are in love with the idea of being in love.

No Way! I disagree.

msbaby says:

You really need a third option here, this movie is not the very best ever but worthy of note nonetheless. While it's not the best ever, it's an excellent movie that "princesses" of all ages will enjoy. It was very difficult for me to hit the "No Way, I disagree" button, but wanted to leave an opinion.

poddys says:

I wouldn't say it's the best movie ever, but I do like it and Drew Barrymore plays the role so well. I still like the Ella Enchanted version of the Cinderella story with Anne Hathaway.

Loreena McKennitt's Book of Secrets album features "The Mummers' Dance" used as background music for the Ever After Trailer featured above. This was one of my favorite albums when it was released in 1998.

The Mummer's Dance is perfect music background for this 16th century period movie.

Danielle - Not Your Grandmother's Cinderella

Director Andy Tennant has two daughters of his own. He did not want them growing up believing that they have to "marry a rich guy with a big house in order to live happily ever after."

With Ever After he has created a more realistic and empowering "Cinderella," one for a new generation of girls.

Danielle De Barbarac is a new type of Cinderella. She is a woman not likely to stay at home and wait quietly for her prince to rescue her.

This Cinderella will be out fighting with him or for him.

I really love the updated version, especially the fact that that there is a story within a story, with Danielle telling the story to her granddaughter. It's a great movie, and Drew plays it perfectly.

Rafika says:

It's ARE the best film in my life. I don't have words to say about this movie. How I wach this film I relise that in this world is nothing who can be so warm, just true love, true feelings. I get very good leson.

enslavedbyfaeries says:

I adore the updated version. It is a truly beautiful movie, one of my favorites!

Comfortdoc says:

I believe Ever After sends a much more positive message for today's girls (and women) than the traditional Cinderella tale.

Drew Barrymore on Her Character Danielle in Ever After

Drew Barrymore had this to say about Danielle:

She's athletic and protective of people. She's adventurous, very strong and a survivor. She's well read, too, because her father gave her wonderfully eloquent, elaborate literature.

In short, she is a 'Cinderella' for a new generation. She definitely is not a passive character.
Non passive, empowering role models are just what is needed for this generation of girls. Ever After has been viewed by some as a modern, post-feminism interpretation of the Cinderella myth.

The Magic Comes from Within

Empowering a New Generation of Girls

"Ever After" puts a new spin on the traditional Cinderella message, instead of the magic coming from a fairy godmother, this modern Cinderella discovers that the her magic comes from within.

The Ever After website originally featured beautiful collages eCards of images from the movie, with the following motivational, inspirational and empowering messages:
  • You can feel.
  • You can believe.
  • You can dream.
  • You can defy.
  • You can rebel.
  • You can desire.
  • You can promise.
  • You can overcome.
  • You can escape.
  • You can soar.

The Point is to Live...

When I saw Ever After, I knew that it was destined to become one of my all time favorites.

The messages that I took to heart after watching the film were of inspiration, of hope and of dreams. It is a powerful message to believe in yourself and you can overcome anything and soar.

The final passage in the story, told by the Grand Dame narrator puts a new twist on the living happily ever after...

While Cinderella and her prince did live happily ever after,
the point, gentlemen, is that they lived.
