A Cinderella for a New Generation
Ever After is a retelling of the Cinderella story with a bit of a twist. This 16th Century Cinderella a.k.a. Danielle, played by Drew Barrymore is beautiful as well as intelligent. She is a victim of ill-fated circumstances who still manages, despite the odds, to rise above it all, change her fate and soar.
In Danielle, director Andy Tennan created a positive role model for today's young girls and women...a woman who is beautiful, adventurous, strong, smart and most of all a survivor.

Why I Love Ever After in 100 Words or Less
Ever After: A Cinderella Story
Amazon Price: $12.99 (as of 09/07/2008)
I like Danielle because she is a new and improved Cinderella. This Cinderella speaks her mind. She is a woman not likely to stay at home and wait for her prince to come and rescue her. She is likely to go and figure out a way to solve her problems without him and rescue herself.
As an empowered woman, Danielle is a much better role positive model for today's young girls.
Ever After is a movie that I have shared with my young daughters to teach them how to you can be a strong 'princess.'

No Way! I disagree.
poddys says:
I wouldn't say it's the best movie ever, but I do like it and Drew Barrymore plays the role so well. I still like the Ella Enchanted version of the Cinderella story with Anne Hathaway.

Amazon Spotlight -The Mummers' Dance
The Book of Secrets
Amazon Price: $11.97 (as of 09/07/2008)
Loreena McKennitt's Book of Secrets album features "The Mummers' Dance" used as background music for the Ever After Trailer featured above. This was one of my favorite albums when it was released in 1998.
The Mummer's Dance is perfect music background for this 16th century period movie.
Danielle - Not Your Grandmother's Cinderella
Director Andy Tennant has two daughters of his own. He did not want them growing up believing that they have to "marry a rich guy with a big house in order to live happily ever after."With Ever After he has created a more realistic and empowering "Cinderella," one for a new generation of girls.
Danielle De Barbarac is a new type of Cinderella. She is a woman not likely to stay at home and wait quietly for her prince to rescue her.
This Cinderella will be out fighting with him or for him.

I believe Ever After sends a much more positive message for today's girls (and women) than the traditional Cinderella tale.

Drew Barrymore on Her Character Danielle in Ever After
Drew Barrymore had this to say about Danielle:- She's athletic and protective of people. She's adventurous, very strong and a survivor. She's well read, too, because her father gave her wonderfully eloquent, elaborate literature.
In short, she is a 'Cinderella' for a new generation. She definitely is not a passive character.
