Everlast Boxing Gloves - The Choice of Champions Since 1910

If you follow boxing then you recognize the Everlast name. You've seen it emblazoned across the gloves of the great champions. Everlast boxing gloves are the standard for the sport. A part of the history of boxing. You can have the same quality and protection as these great champions and maybe share a little bit in that history.

The Different Kinds of Boxing Gloves

Choose the right style for your purpose

There are several different types of boxing gloves to choose from. There are also several different types of fighting and style training gloves available that you can use that are different from the normal boxing gloves. If you just do a little bit of research you can easily find a pair of boxing gloves that will work well for you in every phase of training and competition. You just have to understand what the major differences are between the different styles.

everlast bag glovesBag Gloves - Bag gloves are by far the lightest types of gloves. They are protective gear designed to keep your knuckles safe. When using this type of glove you can punch a speed bag or a heavy bag. These gloves should not be used for hitting the mitts or for sparring. Bag gloves are not fighting gloves. One type of style gloves, MMA gloves, are similar to Bag gloves because they are also designed to protect your hands. Bag Gloves are not as commonly used as they use to be, but they still serve a purpose in your sports & fitness program. Everlast sells very good quality bag gloves! A complete set up includes the gloves a heavy bag stand and the heavy bag itself.

everlast training boxing glovesTraining Boxing Gloves- Many new boxers may not realize that training gloves come in many different sizes and weights. The range of weight that these gloves come in can be anywhere from 16 ounces all the way up to 20 ounces. These gloves will allow you to develop your hand speed. In addition to being able to work on your speed, you will also be able to work on strength and arm stamina. Training with these heavier gloves is a good thing because when you put on your regular competition gloves they will feel like there is nothing on your hands. Some style training gloves are made larger than normal which helps to reduce the impact on your hands.

everlast professional boxing glovesProfessional Fight Gloves- Professional fight gloves are not designed for training because they are too small and light for reliable hand protection. Professional fight gloves are somewhere between eight and ten ounces depending on the weight class you fight in. Everlast boxing gloves are the standard when you want to buy professional fight gloves.

everlast amateur competition boxing glovesAmateur Gloves - These gloves are also for competition, but they have a large white section painted into the center portion of the glove. If you are not familiar with amateur boxing you may be wondering why this white section exists. This white section helps the judges clarify if a punch lands cleanly or not. Professional fighters use amateur gloves during training to help develop proper punching technique and accuracy.

These are the major types of boxing gloves. Most boxers use every type so they can get the full training benefit and protection in the different training phases. Although you could use the same gloves for speed bag gloves and heavy bag stands, or for mitts & shields you increase your risk of discomfort if not injury. Karate sparring gear calls for a different style of glove.

A Brief History of Boxing Gloves

everlast bag glovesBoxing is an ancient sport that has been around for thousands upon thousands of years. The sport actually dates back as far as the ancient Greeks who featured boxing matches in the original Olympic games. In ancient times, the Greeks would wrap their hands in leather strips to protect them. Boxing gloves do not exist to protect the person that is being hit. The fact of the matter is that boxing gloves exist to protect the hands of the person that is throwing the punch. The bones that are located in the hands are small and fragile. They are not made to absorb violent impacts.

Ancient boxing was more violent than the modern day sport of boxing. The ancient Romans turned boxing into a death event. In gladiatorial matches two boxers could be forced to fight to the death. Boxing gloves in those days were deadly weapons which were often embedded with metal spikes and cutting edges.

Boxing disappeared for a while after ancient times, but reappeared as a the beginning of the modern sport we see today during the late 1600's. Unfortunately boxers at that time fought bare-knuckled and the victor often ended up as injured as the loser.

After a few years, people realized that the competition was getting too violent and some form of padded protection for the fighters' hands was introduced into the rules. As primitive as they were these leather pads cut down significantly on the number of broken hands and bloody faces.

Around 1910 Everlast introduced a style of padded boxing glove that is still in use today. The internal padding protects the puncher's hand while the big surface of the punching area of the glove increases the size of the impact zone and reduces the probability of cuts on the opponent. Everlast boxing gloves have been the standard in professional and amateur boxing since 1910.

In the end, however, the purpose of boxing gloves is to allow you to hit things hard without breaking the bones in your hand. That the "thing" you're trying to hit is an equally skilled opponent with the same intention is what makes boxing a popular and enduring sport.

Excellent pair of gloves

I've been using these for my MMA class and really like them. I've used them hitting the bag and mitts. The extra wrist support lets you hit hard while giving some good support and the inside grip allows you to grip with less force so your hands don't get tired quick.

Great Glove

This is a great product. We use the gloves on a heavy bag about three to four times a week and they are everything they were advertised. I highly recommend them for anyone who trains MMA/kickboxing type fighting.

Great bag glove, super durable

I've had a pair of these gloves for a number of years and I will be purchasing another pair for my son. They hold up great, are very comfortable, and offer excellent wrist support (though you still need to wrap your hands). I've used them for both heavy bag work and light mma sparring as I'm still able to grapple with them on. I would definitely recommend this glove.

Customer Reviews

Great product, sizing is on the small side.

I really like the gloves, but the finger style can make your fingers sore near the webbing. I would suggest buying the glove a size larger than you would normally get them (especially if you plan to wrap your fingers or wrists).

Great for your little fighter

Good quality. Put on the pads and let your little one pound away at you. Comes with a zippered mesh storage bag. After 6 months of occasional use, they are still in mint condition. No rips. Great product, great gift.

My 7 year olds loves them

My 7 year old son thinks these are "really cool". They just arrived, and he had a great time wailing away at the mitts. The mitts were comfortable for my hands - snug, not too tight. My 3 year old girl wanted to try punching too. The gloves are too big for her, but she had a fine time anyway. The product's overall quality seems more than adequate for its intended purpose.

Uncomfortable mitts

My kids love the gloves, but the mitts are uncomfortable to wear. The finger dividers on the mitts press down between your fingers. I can't wear the mitts too long at a time.
