Amazing People
For those of you who read "Time" magazine you may recall that 2006 person of the year was 'YOU'.
'Time' did a string of articles about average people using the Internet to promote who they are, their art work, and socializing. Some of which have become very successful because they were able to harness the massive potential that is just a click away.
I was reminded of this Issue when I was using the search engine "stumble upon." I found a variety of interesting people and sites that may never be on the top 10 Google search, but they are worthy of viewing nonetheless.
I was inspired by the talent of average people on the web, and how they are now able to be seen and heard because of this magical thing we call the Internet.
I know that we won't all become famous because we have the ability to throw up a website. However, if one is talented enough, and genius enough to use the Web to promote their idea then the possibilities truly are endless.
This lens is dedicated to all of those people who are brave enough to put themselves out there, and to the many undiscovered talents around the globe.

- EXCERPT FROM TIME
But look at 2006 through a different lens and you'll see another story, one that isn't about conflict or great men. It's a story about community and collaboration on a scale never seen before. It's about the cosmic compendium of knowledge Wikipedia and the million-channel people's network YouTube and the online metropolis MySpace. It's about the many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way the world changes.
The tool that makes this possible is the World Wide Web. Not the Web that Tim Berners-Lee hacked together (15 years ago, according to Wikipedia) as a way for scientists to share research. It's not even the overhyped dotcom Web of the late 1990s. The new Web is a very different thing. It's a tool for bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter. Silicon Valley consultants call it Web 2.0, as if it were a new version of some old software. But it's really a revolution.

Philippe Faraut
Amazing Sculptures
Philippe Faraut is a genius, and I don't think there can be anything more to say. I can admire his work all day; just wish I was wealthy enough to actually purchase. Who knows? Maybe one day.
- Philippe Faraut
- Excerpt From Bio
Philippe has created numerous original works ranging from six-inch porcelain figurines to monuments in both stone and bronze. He has exhibited his sculptures in various galleries and national competitions including several of the National Sculpture Society's Annual Exhibitions shown in New York City and Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina, as well as the American Portrait Society's Annual Exhibit in New York City. In addition, he has studied forensic reconstruction with internationally recognized expert Betty Pat Gatliff.
During the past twelve years, Philippe has traveled throughout the United States and Canada, teaching sculptors and aspiring sculptors how to render portraits in clay at private studios and institutions such as the Longview Museum of Fine Art in Texas. Together with his wife Charisse, the couple has made Philippe's techniques available to students in the form of a two-part video series, in addition to a step-by-step instructional sculpting book.
Can You Tell A Story in a Single Sentence?
These links come from a website called 'One Sentence' which allows people to submit a story they can tell in one sentence.
I think this is a clever and powerful storytelling technique. Everyone who reads has come across that one line that makes you stop and ponder. Convinces you that the author is a genius. You might have even written it down (I know I have).
I chose a few that I thought were very well written, and on variety of topics.

Mona Lisa
Dirty Car Art
The Mona Lisa created out of a dirty car is at the heart of why I created this lens. How many of us have written "wash me" on a filthy car? These people were clever enough to actually create something unique, and that is what drew my to the site. There is nothing better then being clever with the mundane circumstances of life.
Everyone truly is an artist, and art comes in all different forms and mediums. The Internet has given every type of artist a chance to put their work in the public arena, and have the masses pass their judgement.
I had a good laugh when I "stumbled upon" these photographs, and I hope you do too. The good thing about art is that it doesn't all have to be so serious.

- Scott has to drive down a dusty road to get to his home, so finding a canvas is easy for him. There are many more creative images on his site.
Classic Literature
Must Reads
I couldn't create a page about art without including classic literature. I know this list could be much much longer, but there is just not enough time and space to include them all.
I personally have read all of the following and they are part of my all time favorite book list.

Machu Picchu by Kenneth Parker
More Photos By Kenneth Parker
I was lucky enough to stumble upon Kenneth Parker's, and I was immediately amazed by what I saw.
For those of you who are avid web searchers you know that you will either like or dislike a site in the matter of seconds. Something has to grab you quickly, and that is exactly what Parker's photography did for me.
I'm very interested in traveling and Parker captured the beauty in some of the most remote and desirable places on the planet. Most of us will probably never get a chance to visit these scenes, but Parker gives us an opportunity to access their beauty.

- Kenneth Parker Photography
- Kenneth Parker is a large-format landscape colorist working principally in remote pristine wilderness areas throughout the world where he has trekked and kayaked extensively.
Most of Parker's photographs are captured over the course of 5-10 day backpacking excursions hauling 75-85 pounds of large-format camera equipment as he becomes immersed in a profound sense of place. Often several days are spent contemplating the changing light and intimacy of a composition before completing a single exposure. Usually only one or two distinctive images will result from one of these journeys.

Ariana Richard's Gallery
Stumbling into Ariana Richard's gallery was a wonderful experience. I was pleasantly suprised to find that she is/was an actress and in the film 'Jerassic Park'.

Audrey Kawasaki
I was drawn to Audrey Kawasaki's painting because of the unique wood backgrounds and the beautiful faces of the characters she creates. The women have a beautiful, innocence about them along with at least one slightly disturbing image that your mind tells you doesn't belong, yet it still fits.

- EXCERPT FROM BIO
The themes in Audrey Kawasaki's work are contradictions within themselves. Her work is both innocent and erotic. Each subject is attractive yet disturbing. Audrey's precise technical style is at once influenced by both manga comics and Art Nouveau. Her sharp graphic imagery is combined with the natural grain of the wood panels she paints on, bringing an unexpected warmth to enigmatic subject matter.

How has the Internet propelled your Ideas
Most people who will come across this lens have used the Internet as a tool to promote themselves or an Idea. My question is has it worked?
Being successful is a matter of opinion, so if you believe that it has brought you success either financially, socially, emotionally, or any other way then enter yes.
Just because you are not a millionaire or super star doesn't mean that you are not a success story.

We are blessed to live in a society where Freedom of Expression is taken for Granted.
I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.~John Adams
