Free Evites Online Invitation Comparison

Ranked #81 in Internet, #2,054 overall

Online Invitations and Evite Alternatives

Compare the features of all the online invitation sites from Evite to Zoji to MyPunchBowl and PurpleTrail. Find out which are ad free, which ones allow you to use movies in your Evite, and which allow photo sharing after the party.

Evite was launched in 1998, claims over 22 million registered users and over 25,000 invitations are sent each hour. However, many prefer the feature lists and options of other free online invitation websites (including Oprah, Robert Scobel and more).

The New Evite: Completely Customizable

Design Your Own Online Invitiation / Evite

I have to say... I'm actually a little impressed with Evite (and that says a lot since this whole website is about Evite alternatives). Evite launched a completely customizable design your own online invitation application. You can use one of their backgrounds (or upload your own), one of their images (or upload your own), type your own text and choose your own colors and accent images all packaged in an easy to use step-by-step tool for creating your own custom evite.

Cool, right?

Only problem is the same old Evite limitations exist (like the location not showing up in your email that goes out - how annoying!!).

This could make Evite the King of all online invitations again... If they fix the flaws in their system. But the evite competitors have an opportunity to follow suit and create their own simple to use custom invitation tools too... We'll see what happens.

Is Facebook a Better Evite?

Online Invitations go Social

In my own community and network of friends I notice more and more that people rely on Facebook to invite people to events. Most people are already signed up for Facebook, and if they're not (or if you don't know if they are or not) you can send out an invitation to and event to that person's email address. So in this way you can reach Facebook users and non-users alike.

Most people are tired of signing up for separate accounts, and would rather use an account they already have and Facebook makes this easy. You can also customize your Facebook event with a picture, location and more.

Free Party Evites

Here are links to the online invitation websites. Try them out and see which one you like the best!
Evite
Evite seems to be the biggest online invitation website around. They allow you to create custom invitations or to use one of their templates. They also have photo sharing, and RSVP management. However, a lot of people don't like Evite because the invitations they send out don't show any of your event details. Instead you have to click on link to get the details.
Purple Trail
Purple Trail boasts that it can do everything that Evites does, plus more with no advertisements on your invitations! With Purple Trail you can send invitations and reminders through email, print, SMS, voice or social networks like Facebook.
My Punch Bowl
MyPunchBowl has a tool that helps you pick the perfect date for your party, automatically sends out your invitations, manages all your RSVPs for you, and allows you and your guests to share Flikr photos and YouTube videos after the party.
Man Vites
ManVites was created with men in mind. You won't find any girly invitations here. The options to send are "Drink Beer," "Watch Sports," "Poker," "Bachelor Party," "Cougar Hunting" and more.
Pingg
Create both online and traditional paper invitations with Pingg. They will print stamp and mail your paper invitations. They will also manage your RSVPs and you can all share your photos here after the party!
Good Invitation
GoodInvitation is a free online tool that you can use as often you want. Choose from many different themes and templates. You can also create a Movie Trailer Invitation, where you choose the words and the end result is voiced-over what appears to be the opening to an epic film.
Events Listed
This website is not live yet, but you can sign up to be involved in the beta launch!
Socializr
Socializr was created by Friendster founder, Jonathan Abrams. It also integrates with MySpace, Facebook and other social networks. Plus, you can add music and videos to your invitations.
Invitastic
A bare bones invitation site, but easy to start using.
Zoji
Invitation sending made easy. They even allow guest voting for the best day for the event!
Enclude
Enclude allows you to create quality customized invitations (featuring your photos too) and also allows you to share photos with everyone who came afterwards.
Shindigg
Currently in beta but they are actively seeking out user feedback on their service and features.
Planypus
They claim to be the "wiki for your social life."
Sendomatic
Business and personal use plans, plus they will also customize your invites for you for a fee.
Events-X
I actually haven't tried this one yet, but have gotten several users recommend it saying it's clean and easy to use. Will be checking it out soon, but wanted to go ahead and list it for all to see.

Is there a site that allows you to simply send invites but NOT have an RSVP component? We have aa yearly open house with lots of folks incited and we do not want folks to rsvp or feel that they need to pre-plan.

The Facebook event ap allows you to invite people, and allow them to invite people (if you turn that feature on) but it doesn't require an RSVP. People can say yes, maybe, no or nothing at all.

EventEve.com provides the option to create an Invitation webpage with / without the option to RSVP. For more customization requirements you can write to them at support@eventeve.com. They try their best to provide best of services...

To be specific, when you are creating an Invitation in www.EventEve.com, you have to choose the Event Type as 'Public' and there you get the option 'User Response - Required / Not Required' which means display RSVP section / Do not display RSVP section. Hope it helps...

One huge flaw with Evite is that you cannot change your email address or add one once everthing is set up. This has been an ongoing problem for over two years and continues to be. Yet their support team quite dishonestly implies that it is just temporary and it will be fixed soon. My email address that I use with Evite is being shut down so I am now hooped. Either I re-enter everything including contacts if I want to continue using Evite or search out a new invitation website. Personally, I am not going to give Evite a second chance if they can't deal with this simple problem right now because I don't want to wind up in the same position again.

Thanks for the helpful consolidated listing! One question... do guests have to register to RSVP in socializr? It is marked "no" in the above matrix, but I cannot find a way for a guest to RSVP without registering and logging on to socializr. Has this perhaps changed since the listing was created? Thx.

Great to have this information; are there any sites besides EventEve.com that handles potluck? Also, with RSVPs that indluce the number attending? That is an important concept and I can't find the feature on Evite or Punchbowl.

This is a a great resource for the event planning community. I didn't see www.anyvite.com listed. It's wonderful..Very easy to use with nicely organized event pages/features. I've hosted many successful events with the anyvite platform.

Is anyone else tired of template based invitations? Isn't there a simple one that lets me just simply add a photo without the ads and without being so slow!

I was looking for a site where I could link where we are registered and have a place for friends that can not attend to leave advice or best wishes to us. Do you know of any that complex?

Evite allows comments for people who have RSVP'd; any of the guests can read them.

Another new website for sending and managing online invitations is http://www.EventEve.com Found it extremely good for sending & managing potluck parties. It is absolutely free and includes event details in emails. Guests don't need to register to RSVP, participate in Poll or choose an item to bring for potluck.

I'm confused about these "free" e-vites. Whenever I go to a site it appears there will be a cost for the invitation. I'm looking at glosite, pingg, mypunchbowl and evite. I'm not very good at technology. We're doing e-vites for a wedding that's taking place in 4 1/2 weeks so I need to get this done! Help? Suggestions?

Great question. A lot of these services have free versions of their evites and paid versions that are ad free and have more features. Pingg has PinggPlus and Punchbowl has a Plus membership that also gives you ad free ecards. It all ends up boiling down to whether ads are a distraction to your event or not. If you think a vendor ad might take away from your event (like a wedding) you might do better to pay for a membership to one of these sites. Let me know if I can be of any more help.
