Evolve Your Brain - Central Theme
Chiropractic Joe Dispenza met with a serious accident as he competed for a triathlon. The accident left him with seriously fractured backbone. Doctors and surgeons recommended surgery with limited mobility for rest of his life. Drawing on his knowledge of Chiropractic, Yoga and Martial Arts, Joe Dispanza chose a different path. Shunning the option of surgery, he chose to work with his mind and body and recovered completely.
Encouraged with his success, Joe continued to research other cases of non-conventional healing. This book is his understanding of how we - all of us - can use the brain/mind combination to reinvent ourselves.
The book is largely based on known scientific facts about the brain and its functioning. Neocortex is the seat of conscious actions. Midbrain and Cerebellum are the seats of non-voluntary actions. Conscious effort is driven by the Neocortex. However, repeated actions push the activity to the non-voluntary domain of the brain. Think back when you first rode a bicycle or drove a car. The effort was 'visible'. Now you drive a car or ride a bicycle without thinking about it. The body has taken over.
The same process can be used to induce any change a person desires.
The technique suggested in this book is feasible.
Evolve Your Brain - Rating and Recommendation
Style: At times repetitive. Overall reads well. The description of the author's fight using his mind and body to overcome permanent disability is gripping. If you remember your science you may wish to avoid the detailed description of the human nervous system.
Knowledge content: Very detailed information on Brain and its function. The mind altering technique suggested is simple, yet affective. The knowledge gained can be implemented effectively.
Applicability: Immense. Will definitely help you in personal and professional life.
Recommendation: Unlike many magic-cure self help books available in the market, this one is based, to a large extent, on known scientific and empirical facts. Definitely worth a read.
From the book
Once we understand how the brain works to create mind, we can go beyond the comfortable boundaries of what we already know. When we can unite our conscious mind to that infinite mind with unlimited potential, we will have access to a world of new possibilities. Consciousness is the only element that make sense of how we can change the brain and mind. The time when we are truly conscious, attentive, aware, and present is when we change how the brain works, to create a new level of mind.

Because most people are poor observers and don't see the obvious links between behavior, health, and overall mood, it often takes a major, life-altering event to get our attention focused on ourselves, our predilections, and our propensities.

From the book
Athletics abounds with examples of this seemingly automatic functioning. How does a diver go off a ten-meter platform, turn two and one-half somersaults, spring out of that tucked position to complete a series of twists, and then orient the body so that they can enter the water head-first at a close-to-perpendicular position? ... Athletes tell us that they get their minds out of the way and let the body do the work.
