Computer Data Backup Tape Drives

In November 2006, Tandberg Data acquired Exabyte Corporation. With the acquisition, Tandberg Data has doubled its size and stepped up among the major technology companies listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. The combined product portfolios of the two companies will provide customers with the full range of state-of-the-art, cost effective products and technologies to meet their needs, including Exabyte's VXA packet technology.

The Future of Tape
Over the past 30 years, the decline of tape storage has been predicted countless times as new technologies have emerged for data backup applications. But each time, innovators in the tape storage industry have responded by developing and introducing technological advances that:

  • Significantly increase the capacity and performance of tape storage products,
  • Dramatically reduce the price of storage on tape compared to other media, and
  • Allow customers to store data and comply with stringent legal requirements (WORM).

As a result of these innovations, tape has been extraordinarily resilient in surviving these challenges and remains the value-oriented IT managers' first choice for data backup.
