Your Guide to Easy Application Error Repair

Find out more about what causes the *.exe application error messages & what easy steps you can take to repair such problems and prevent them from disrupting your work.

There are several different exe application errors that can occur due to reasons such as computer viruses or other malware, conflicting software, faulty hardware (bad RAM or bad sectors in your HDD), malformed registry entries, and more. We provide easy and fast solutions for all the common exe application error problems below.

Symptoms & Causes of *.exe Application Error

Getting svchost, services, nvsvc32, pctstray, iexplore and similar application errors?

When you are looking for an *.exe application error fix, first you have to pinpoint the problem. What kind of error message are you getting? What software did you install right before you started getting the error, or what kind of changes did you make to the system settings?

  • process lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code - 1073740972
(Note: the application name and the status code might differ).

This error could indicate a software conflict or (more rarely) a virus infection. Your best bet would be installing all needed Windows updates. If the application that crashes is not a system process, that program itself might be faulty, corrupted (such as a pirated or cracked copy) or might need updating to solve the stability issue.

  • A critical system process, C:\WINNT\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000354
(Note: the application name and the status code might differ).

Much like the previous exe application error, it is usually solved by updating your Windows OS or uninstalling conflicting software (such as a firewall you installed recently). Also run an antivirus scan and an error fixer. Boot your system from a Windows CD and use Windows Repair if everything else fails.

  • Application error: The instruction at "0x0c175969" referenced memory at "0x0c405800", the memory could not be read / written
(Note: the application name and the memory location might differ).

Like the message indicates, your PC tried to read or write a certain memory address and failed. It usually means a faulty or unstable (due to overclock) RAM or bad sectors in your HDD. It is advised to use Windows CheckDisk (Start > Run > chkdsk), do an error scan and check for viruses.

  • the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application
(Note: the application name and the status code might differ).

If the program used to run fine before, it could indicate corrupted data or malware infection. Check your computer for viruses and spyware, and do an error scan. If the program never started properly in the first place, you might need to use Windows Compatability Mode or re-download the corrupted files.

  • msiexec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
(Note: the application name might differ).

This *.exe application error message isn't particularly informative and only tells us that a certain program has generated an error and was closed by the OS. As usual a full error scan and antivirus scan is advised, as well as looking into updating the affected program to the newest version to solve the stability issue. If the software is a video game, getting the latest drivers is a must.
As explained, the *.exe application error messages above are just examples. They can include all kinds of error codes and be generated by any software such as processes named crw32, hkcmd, wmrundll, wscntfy, csrss, jusched (Java updater), taskmgr (System Task Manager), v2isr, indesign (Adobe In Design), sdtrayapp, amvo and so on - the ones listed here being notable culprits.

How to Protect My PC for Free?

Tips, tricks and advise on how to secure your PC.

The internet is a dangerous place, but by following some simple tips you can avoid most of the trouble. Not only you will protect your privacy and data, you will also have a faster working PC and get less of those annoying *.exe application error messages since a lot of them are caused by online threats such as computer viruses.

  • Use a firewall, an antivirus and a spyware remover - the "golden trio" in protecting your PC. There's a lot of great security software; I have listed my personal favorites on this page above, but feel free to choose whatever suits you. if you keep the firewall and the antivirus monitor running, your PC will always be well protected from malware and hackers.

  • Update frequently: not only Windows updates but other software updates (such as your browser) often contain important security fixes and patches. Having a vulnerable older version might just be the thing that gets your PC infected with a virus or a keylogger.

  • Always backup important data: keep copies of important files on a safe location such as a DVD or a USB flash drive. You can also use an automatic online backup provider such as Mozy - they offer 2 GB of secure online storage for free. If you backup on another HDD or a DVD, you might find Acronis True Image useful as it creates an exact copy of your PC that you can restore with a few clicks.

A stable, fast and secure PC is easy to achieve if you use the right software. I hope you found these tips for repairing *.exe application errors and protecting your computer from malware and hackers helpful. Feel free to leave a comment on your way out!

I am pretty much the only computer-literate person in my family, so I get to fix everyone's computers. My dad's work PC, my brother's gaming "rig", etc. Even my aunts who live nearby call me often with questions like "the screen turned blue and it says some stuff about protection error did I break it?". Ugh. If every1 just knew the very basic stuff like use an antivirus, firewall, etc. I'd be out of my computer fixing work :)
