When Fixing EXE Errors Doesn't Work...

There's always a solution to even the biggest computer problems!

  • Use the compatibility mode: are you by any chance trying to run older software that might not be compatible with the newest Windows OS versions? In that case, try running it using the built-in compatibility mode. Just right click on the shortcut icon, select "Properties" and navigate to the "Compatibility" tab to choose the proper settings. Note: the Application Experience service must be enabled for this special mode to work.

  • Scan your computer with an antivirus and an antispyware program. While such software often won't fix exe errors, it can prevent them from happening in the future. You should also use a firewall, such as the free version of ZoneAlarm to further protect your PC from hackers and malicious software attacks coming from the internet. Remember: use an antivirus, a spyware remover, and a firewall together to secure your PC from online threats!

  • Scan your registry: most software modifies the system registry in one way or another. That's where your Windows XP, Vista or Win7 OS keep the crucial system settings among other things, so if those particular registry entires get malformed, damaged or even deleted it can cause all kinds of application (exe) errors. Use free software like Registry Mechanic to scan, optimize, repair and defragment registry.

  • Use Windows Repair: when everything else fails and even the system files themselves are damaged, boot your computer from your Windows CD (make sure your DVD-ROM or CD-ROM is set as the first boot device in your BIOS). Proceed to Windows Setup and press F8 to accept the terms and continue. Once inside, select your existing Windows installation and press "R" to start the repair process. This should only be used as the last resort when your operating system itself does not boot properly!

Now that you have the right tools and software, if you get an exe error how to fix it shouldn't be a question anymore. Just run ErrorFix and that alone should take care of the most exe errors and their causes. Check your computer for spyware and viruses too!
