Exercise At Home - Keep It Safe

When you exercise at home make sure you keep it safe.

While you have many benefits when you exercise at home, there are also a few potential drawbacks.

When you do your workout from the friendly confines of your own home, you won't have to worry about traveling back and forth to a gym. And, you'll be able to sweat and grunt and groan without an audience!

And while exercising at home can be convenient and private, there is one potential concern. Safety, your safety.

But if you follow a few simple rules, you can enjoy a workout at home that is safe, convenient, and effective.

Six Simple Rules To Keep You Safe When You Exercise At Home

  1. The first thing to do when you exercise at home is to always stretch properly. If you don't adequately stretch, it's too easy to tweak a muscle and put your exercise program on the shelf. So always take a few minutes to stretch and warm up your muscles.
  2. If you are just beginning to exercise or if you are starting a new program, be sure to begin with a short exercise session. You don't want to injure yourself by overdoing exercises that you are not yet accustomed to. So take it easy in the beginning. You can slowly ramp up your workouts later.
  3. Make sure your exercise equipment is in good working order. Check your cables and bands and weights before you start exercising.
  4. It's good to have a workout buddy. This is especially true if you are lifting weights. Never perform exercises such as bench presses without a spotter.
  5. If you feel pain, stop. Stop your workout. Pain is different from a little soreness. But- if there's any doubt- discontinue your workout session.
  6. Check your general worout area with safety in mind. Make sure there are no hazards (such as a throw rug or corner of a desk) in the workout space in your home that could cause injury. Make sure your workout area has proper ventilation.
