What Are The Best Exercises To Improve Posture?

Will just any exercise do? Do you have to do yoga, pilates, or can you just modify exercises you're already doing? Can you get better posture with running? Swimming? Yoga? Something else? I've tried just about everything!

I first got a bit upset when I was working out and saw that so many people had bad posture! These were people in way better shape than me! If they couldn't do it, how was I going to do it?

Or worse, how much exercise does it really take to get better posture? Maybe it just wasn't worth it? I'll tell you more, but a lot changed when I found ImproveMyPosture.com.

Exercise To Improve Posture - What Not To Do!

You'll probably think this is okay. Don't do it!

There are lots of ways to improve posture with exercise, and that's good news. If there was only one way and you either didn't like it or couldn't do it, that would be a problem!

Swimming can work well, something to do with the way you typically move your arms and legs and how they interact stimulates the posture muscles.

Running, while great for your heart and lungs doesn't do much posture. The same with many of the machines that you might encounter at the gym. They all have their purpose, but improving posture is not their purpose!

So many people start to think that just any exercise will do. They're not realizing that posture exercises are only different in the muscles they target to make a difference. Doing the wrong exercises will either do nothing to help your posture, or will actually aggravate your back! What I found at ImproveMyPosture.com works really well.

Exercises To Improve Posture - The Right Concept

As long as you're doing this...

As I mentioned, there's lots of ways to improve posture with exercise, but a main key is this; what do you do in a typical day? Are you in front of the computer all day? Do you have a long drive into work? Do you lift all day? This matters!

The goal of posture exercises is to balance out what you do all day. I'm guessing that since you're on a computer looking for posture help, you probably spend a lot of time on a computer! Now slowly, carefully... look at your posture right now. Are you sitting up straight? Probably not. You're using the front of your body to type and view things on the screen.

We need to do things that balance that out. So you can either stretch the front of your body more, or you can strengthen the back of your body more. A combination of the two is usually best. If you go to the gym and just do a little bit of everything, you're not balanced.

Your workout may be balanced, but the total of what you do all day is not. (As evidenced by you hunching over!) So stretch the front of your body more and build up the muscles of your back even more. You can learn what I learned by going to ImproveMyPosture.com.

Exercises To Improve Posture - How Long Do I Have To Do Them?

Or How Often...

Everyone's different. We're all different ages, sizes, and our daily activities vary. So it's impossible for me to make a blanket statement and say for sure that's going to work for you.

Here's the thing, though. Plan on doing any posture exercises daily until you see a difference. The right exercises should help you start to feel a difference (maybe you just don't hurt as much) in less than a week. After that, keep going until your posture gets where you want it to be.

Once you're feeling good about your posture, you can probably back off to a couple of times per week. If you start to notice things getting worse, get back on it! Don't give up on looking and feeling your best!
