EXPENSIVE CANDLE CARE

Candles can be quite the treasure but sadly to enjoy them is to burn them. It is like the old problem of the having ones cake and eating it too. Cannot have a candle and burn it too. Yet, with some good tips one can get the most out of their expensive candles and have them last longer.

Why Buy Expensive Candles

One gets what they pay for. Buy cheap candles they are unscented or scented with generic scents, and they do not last. The quality is just not there. However, when buying quality expensive candles one gets the best that candles have to offer with aroma, a quality burn, and soothing light.

BURNING CANDLE WICK

The candle wick is the primary function of your expensive candle; all else just reacts to the burning candle wick. It liquefies the wax candle and drives the liquid wax up to be burned. Its function doesn't stop there, it also melts the top of your candle so it burns evenly, and only when the entire surface is melted, does the candle scent provide full aroma. This means when burning candle wax, you should let it burn for hours (some suggest a minimum of three hours). Do not short change candle burning times.

CANDLES WICK POSITION

candles wick position

Geometry is a major factor in expensive candle care. The wick is carefully centered in expensive candles (candles wick position), that it melts the top of the candle evenly. Think of your candle as being on an x/y axis. One, the y axis length of wick is important. Therefore, trim the wick upon initial burning (but rarely after) cut the wick to be at least quarter inch from the wax. This will keep the flame close enough to melt across to the edge of the candle.

On the x axis, every care needs to be taken to keep the wick centered. Simple factors such as a draft or extinguishing the flame can move it off center, thereby making burning/melting uneven. Do not blow out your expensive candle! Use a snuffer to extinguish the candle.

The wick is designed to produce a small black socket on the cover of the wick when the wick is burned. This is normal to aid in distributing the heat downward and evenly to radiate heat to from center to the edges of your expensive candle. After the initial burning do your best not to disturb nor cut the burnt wick. Again, a snuffer will do its best to keep a quality socket (a quality candles wick position) for your expensive candle.

Three Expensive Candle Tips

Snip - snip candle wicks to 1/4" (keeps burning even). Use a candle wick scissors or candle wick trimmer.
Snuff - use a candle snuffer to extinguish the candle wick (keeps candle wick position centered)
Hug - After extinguishing (when warm), reshape candle mold to original shape

CANDLE BURN TIMES SUGGESTIONS

candle burn times suggestions

Make sure to burn your expensive candle for the appropriate time. If you burn a candle for a shorter period than the candle burn times suggestions, it will burn down the middle and you will have excess wax on the sides.

Pillar candles should be burned for a minimum of 3 hours per lighting. Burn time for a pillar varies by size, but it should burn about one inch for every 14 hours.

Three Wick candles should be burned minimum of 6 hour per lighting. If you burn for less time, the candle will develop three holes where the wicks are located. Three Wick candle should last for 400 hours with proper care. Remember to burn for at least 6 hours and do not trim the wicks.

Tea Lights should last four to six hours.

Votives should last eight to twelve hours

Dinner candles should burn one inch for every 45 minutes. To ensure that the candles do not drip, make sure the candle is not located underneath a draft. Also, dinner candles should be unscented so the aroma does not interfere with the taste of the food being served.
Important!

The Most Important Thing To Remember

Any consideration of care for your expensive candle begins with the position of the wick. Keep it centered and near the wax.

Enjoying a candle can be one of the most sublime enjoyments available. Enjoy an expensive candle with someone you love, alone with a book or movie, while meditating or bathing, or just to help center you.

However, if you find that you are spending to much candle burn time alone, perhaps a trip abroad can help you find somebody. Find that sweet center to life's chocolate covering.

I have been enjoying the scents for men that have come out lately like leather and grass. Not so much the novelty scents though like bacon.
