Set along Mexico's southeastern coast, on the peninsula of the same name, the tropical state of Yucatan boasts colonial Merida-known as the "White City"-as its capital, and quaint towns like Valladolid, where traditional Mayan dress and handicrafts still thrive, among its unique attractions.

Mayan heritage is also celebrated at impressive archaeological grounds like Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Uxmal, site of notable pre-Colombian ruins.
