- Wow. I've seen some bizarre things on the Internet, but these comments? For Julie-Ann?
I had to write a response.
I have been working with Julie-Ann since 2005 (actually I think I was the second or third writer she hired). She helped me get my freelance writing career started, helping me learn the skills which have driven me to success. She pays on time (not the norm) and allowed me the chance to hone my writing by taking on the administrative details, hunting for clients, creating briefs, etc.
At the same time, Julie-Ann taught me how to run a business well. I've learned so many things that books don't teach you; only experience and a patient (very patient at times) mentor can show you these skills.
While I work in the U.S. and she's in the U.K., I had the chance to meet her while working on a project in Germany in 2008. She's simply a charming, down to earth, and good person.
I've worked for many clients and I've been quite profitable on my own, but I owe Julie-Ann the credit for getting me started.
To see that someone would spend their time criticizing something they don't know, that's alarming. Then again, when someone is so successful, it can be tempting to try to find flaws in their character and in their business.
I haven't found a one in Julie-Ann.
Back to writing...

- Michael - If you have time to write pointless, scathing attacks on other writers, as well as the time to 'stalk' other Elance writers to see what they are up to, then you obviously aren't getting enough work to keep you busy. Maybe you should consider joining the team and then you'll have something more constructive to do with your time...

- I’ve worked for Julie-Ann for five years now. I was new to the industry then, but thanks to what I’ve learned from her, I’m quite successful now. I’m a published author, run my own business and have clients around the world, outside of what I do for her. Julie-Ann’s top notch- she pays on time, offers fun work that fills the gaps, does the leg work for me and provides a decent wage. She knows her team personally and tailors projects for us. Unlike the other companies mentioned, Julie-Ann is trustworthy and reliable. The question is, why attack? If your business is going so well, why do you feel challenged by someone else’s success in the industry?
I love working for Julie-Ann, and as someone else has said, it pays the bills allowing me to do what’s most important to me, like charity work and raising my children. As someone who has been with her for five years, I guarantee she is the real deal!

- I normally don't comment on these types of personal attack comments but I do wish to add my two cents. I have been writing for Julie-Ann for five years now and have never had a complaint or concern about her professionalism. Like some of the other writers have mentioned I write for her for several reasons not the least of which is the pay is always there, never an issue with chasing clients or not getting fair compensation. I know I am making much more per article than I would on Elance or O-Desk and I don't have to worry about chasing people for payments or dealing with all the bidding, project coordination and billing. This because she has a outstanding reputation as a writer and a crack coordination team that handles all that for me. I am able to capitalize on that as a member of her team.
Julie-Ann supports and encourages all her writers in their personal endeavors, be that writing or even taking on their own projects. I have nothing but good comments about her as a boss and I highly doubt you will find anyone that works for her that has any different opinion.

- So sad to see that there are trolls out there looking to attack people for no logical reason.
I've been on Julie-Ann's team for almost 4 years. Most people who know me wouldn't call me a dunce. I also have many freelance clients of my own as working for Exquisite Writing has taught me a lot about writing for the web, enabling me to develop my writing career. Why to I keep working with her? Simple. She pays on time, she's flexible, she offers an almost all-I-can-write buffet for when I don't have a busy schedule, and she is great to work for.
That's all.

- How very strange and distrubting. I have been on Julie-Ann's freelance team for more than two years, but boast more than 20 years in the industry working full-time the entire time.
Julie-Ann is highly professional and provides a service both for clients and freelancers on her team. She frees us up to write the projects we'd like to so we don't have to spend time on the administrative end.
Sounds to me like someone has sour grapes and/or has been highly misinformed.

- What a bizarre attack! This comment is simply a correction to the factual errors present in the previous comment.
Firstly I do not article farm. I have a team of 4 in-house administrative/project management staff and over 30 writers on payroll, and all are paid weekly for the work they do. With a weekly payroll of around 5K, I don't need to pay freelancers to take on projects - the team handles everything in house. There's no such thing as my farming out work, although on occasion an existing client might ask me for expertise we simply can't cover in house, so I do place the odd ad for new team members but that's extremely rare. My company records and VAT accounts are a matter of public record, and you won't find entries for expenditure on casual staff or project workers.
Secondly, I don't know why some of my writing team work for me. I'm just glad they do. The team has been stable for over 5 years, and the average length of time working for me is in excess of 4 years, so they must be happy. Less than 10% of my staff has less than 2 years service. This enables me to only bid for projects on elance that I have a particular writer suitable for - avoiding the scattergun approach many use. That means that every bid I place already has a team member lined up to execute it if we are awarded the work, so there’s simply no need to farm out work ever. It also means that most clients enjoy a regular writer as "their writer" for their writing projects, as I know they are (workload and holidays permitting) always available.
You mention elance negative and neutral feedback - which might take a while to find, but not long to read. Again, a matter of public record. In just under 1000 feedback over the past ten years I've grossed just under $1M, and have a total of FOUR negative feedbacks and 25 neutrals. The fact that elance chose me as one of only two providers to showcase in their University (http://www.elance.com/p/elanceuniversity/provider/case-study/jamos.html) is also somewhat of an indication of the opinion elance has of my business and methods of operation.
I'm not going to comment on the other elance providers mentioned below, as I don't regard them as in any way comparable – I don’t have time to track them but they appear to have a totally different method of operation. I do know that some of my own staff had originally worked for one of them, and an increasing number of providers on elance are attempting to replicate what I do in a different way.
I'm not going to introduce you to the dunces working for me, as I don't have any. I also doubt that any of them will feel the desire to communicate with you, but they're aware of this page and I will make them aware of the comments below and if they see fit to respond that's entirely their own choice.

- Julie,
Somehow your claim of having a "team" working with and for you seems really very hard to believe...I too am a UK based freelancer, working individually and have been in this business for more than 10 years and so understand all its nuances in and out.
The economics just doesn't seem to make any sense to me - unless you have daft idiots with ZERO ambition working for you. After all, there are no barriers to entry in our business; if these individuals are so highly talented in the writing department, why do they continue to work for you, and not work themselves? At least I would NEVER work for you.
I have seen your negative and neutral feedback on Elance and my belief gets all the more strengthened that you too indulge in what I call as "article farming", something which is even more obvious from other high volume, high earning providers on Elance like jkwelch22 (what terrible feedback she has and yet DUMB clients continue to give work to her), flour89, and another terrible provider from Pakistan called maira which I have also been actively tracking.
Nonetheless, I am from Gloucester too, so sooner or later, I will get to the truth and unleash it to the world for everyone to know. Meanwhile, if you can voluntarily introduce me to the dunces working for you (if any!) I would jump at the offer!!
No Cheers,
Michael

- If I'm writing 10,000 words for JAA, I make about 250. Doing the same finding work on my own... I make about fifty bucks. Julie Ann's name draws a lot of respect in the industry, hence, higher rates. My name doesn't, hence, lower rates. I prefer to leave the promotional and administrative stuff to her and just do the writing. Why don't I move up in the industry? Because, dude, I'm just doing this to pay the bills. Asking an SEO writer why they're doing SEO for five to ten bucks a page is like asking a diner cook why they don't start their own cooking academy. It's something I'm alright at, and it pays the rent.

- Oh dear, somebody’s throwing his toys out of his cot, isn’t he? Got a touch of the green-eyed monster have we Michael? As somebody who has (a) worked for Julie-Ann for around 16 months (b) ghost-written 10 books in the course of a year, a number of which are currently in print and doing very well (c) writes a blog which was voted amongst the top 100 in its category in 2009 and receives many wonderful comments from readers who compliment the quality of the writing and not just the content (d) has kept a good many repeat clients happy with countless articles, press releases and websites, and (e) has literally never had a day without work from Julie-Ann, I think you truly underestimate the quality service that she and her team provide.
As for having ZERO ambition, nothing could be further from the truth. As you will have seen from some of the other comments left by Julie-Ann’s team members, many have highly successful writing careers. Personally, and not that it’s any of your business, I write for Julie-Ann as a means of supporting myself whilst working on my novels and so am far from lacking in ambition. Although I am sure it’s not what you want to hear, Julie-Ann is a fabulous person to work with and provides many aspiring writers with opportunities which allow them to get started.
Finally, as a very competent writer myself, and an English teacher, I am quite frankly amazed that you have managed to earn a living during the past 10 years if the standard of English demonstrated in your comment is anything to go by (‘that you too indulge in what I call as article farming’??? What kind of English is that?). I really don’t think you need to worry about never working for Julie-Ann. Hun, you wouldn’t make the grade!

- I note, Michael, that despite the comments left by just a few of Julie-Ann's team members you have posted neither an apology nor a retraction. I guess that speaks volumes about a man who not only describes his fellow writers as 'daft idiots' and 'dunces', but even describes the clients as 'dumb'! I can only hope, for your sake, that your own clients (if any!) are not made aware of your feelings and I wish you well in your search for a decent therapist who can help you to overcome your powerful feelings of bitterness and regrettable tendency towards self-delusion.

- Sorry but accusing me of racism is rather laughable. My ex-husband is black, and my stepmother is black - I have a black/mixed race stepdaughetr, stepbrothers and sisters, nephews and nieces - and a mix of clients from just about every nationality and race. We regularly write on race related issues for several non-white clients. Please do your research if you're going to accuse people of something.

- Julie,
You know you support racist attitudes in the work place - you hide behind your writings only to assist those whom pay your bills. Your HR abilities assist racists to get way with their weakness. What a racist supporter you are, we've read all about your dealings with people in the E. Business, its a shame your image online is some what pure.

- This sounds like a good business to be in, I have been looking to break into freelance writing for some time, and having moved back from the USA to the UK recently, this will I hope increase my ability to look at things from an international perspective. 5***** and I will be in touch.
