Extend The Life Of Your LCD TV

Baby Your LCD TV And It'll Baby You

Today's LCD Televisions are high tech marvels, delivering incredible video quality but they are also not all that hardy and prone to break down. I repair a lot of TVs that didn't last long after their warranty expired. But there are some things within your control to help to ease the burden and perhaps delay its demise.

LCD Back Light

More Isn't Always Better

One of the easiest ways to save energy and possibly extend the life of your LCD panel is to reduce the "back light" setting. The term back light refers to the way your LCD panel produces brightness. Most TV sets have several fluorescent bulbs built into the panel itself. When the LCD crystals open it lets the light pass through them. Without back lighting you would see nothing on your screen. Many people crank their back light settings to max ,you'll use more energy and shorten the life expectancy of the bulbs doing that. Many panels get replaced due to bad back lights, so reducing their workload can help extend its life.Try lowering it as much as you can and still enjoy the picture. Some televisions have a sensor that detects the amount of light in the room and reduces back lighting accordingly. Check your owners manual or look in the TVs menu for such settings.

Conserve Energy To Extend Life

Go Green And Save

When you turn off your TV it is still on but in "standby" mode which means it is still drawing power, just at a lower rate. As long as electricity is flowing through a circuit it is aging it faster than if it were off,so reducing the energy can only help.If your TV has power management settings use them to draw less juice when not in use..,hey that rhymes!

Is Your TV Really Off? Better Check

This happens in my house all the time, the cable box is turned off which makes the TV screen go black but the TV never got shut off and has probably really been on for hours. Double check to look at the power light to make sure it's really off. Or plug the tv into the ac outlet of the cable box (some cable boxes have options of "always on" or "off with converter" make sure yours is set to turn off with the box)

Hmm - this lens, with a promising topic and title, is a little short. I found it through your "How to be a complete failure" lens - so I am not sure if this is supposed to be an example or serious... I've a lens on second hand LCD monitors, and some info on Compaq monitor power supply replacements. This is definitely worth a lensroll on those.
