At a recent Halloween pumpkin carving contest, in Skeeterville, South Dakota, people reported that the winning carver was a space alien, demanding the alien's immediate disqualification.

The complaints included claims that various alien entrants enjoyed unfair advantages based on their varied non-human anatomies. Some Skeetervillian entrants protested any aliens competing.

Contest organizers responded that the only requirement for entry was full payment of the entrance fee, regardless of number of limbs, hands or cutting tools. Organizers went on to say, "The more the merrier."

However, the contest committee reserved judgment, pending further investigation of the event as of news time today.

In addition to the contest controversy, a shortage of toothpicks has been reported.

SQUID PRESS INTERNATIONAL EDITORIAL

Since the contest rules did not specify earthlings, our Constiutiton guarantees the Rights of Free Speech and Assembly as well as Equal Justice under Law.

Contestants who have filed grievances should withdraw their filed claims as a waste of tax payer dollars. Litigiousness has really gotten out of hand here.

Justice dictates that simply because aliens are not earth citizens, does not mean they should be barred from competition.

This publication stands firmly for equal justice under law for all aliens. If they are better extreme pumpkin carvers, tough pumkpins. So be it.

We wish them fairness, and the appropriate prizes distributed without regard to planetary citizenship.

This year my son and I carved a Star Wars and a Spongebob jack o'lantern. I decided to try my hand at doing some relief carving using a hand held grinder...works very well. (Just a little messy). GREAT LENS!

Introducing the Squid-o-Lantern Carving Contest!

For those of you who love sticking your hand inside a gooey, slimy pumpkin - or just want a reason to slice into something - we're hosting a carving contest only a lensmaster could love.

Move over, witches and ghosts, this contest has a Squidoo theme. Here are the rules and prizes:

1. Carve a Squidoo-themed pumpkin. Sure, we'll even take a gourd.
2. Take a picture.
3. Share the story and the picture on a new SquidBoo lens.
4. The community will vote for the best pumpkin during the last week of October.
5. Winner gets $25 at next payday (plus $25 for their favorite charity on our list).

both...but using a pattern can help create great results. You can always create your own pattern instead of using a premade one...then it's not really cheating!
