Extreme Writing Now takes to the talk show circuit

Every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST (-5 hours GMT) the show takes to the air and blazes through thirty minutes of casual conversation about writing, including EWN happenings and guest interviews.

Good Morning Vietnam

Good Morning, Vietnam (Special Edition)

Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog) directed this comedy-drama about an Armed Forces Radio disc jockey (Robin Williams) whose manic, hilarious delivery from a studio in 1965 Saigon gives U.S. troops in the field a morale boost (while upsetting military brass). Based on the real-life experiences of deejay Adrian Cronauer, the film is actually more concept than story: put Williams in front of a microphone and let him go nuts. Still, the surrounding .... read the entire review at Amazon...

Extreme Writing Now Network

...it's the poop!

Every Sunday, at 6:30 p.m. EST (-5 hours GMT) Extreme Writing Now takes to the airways with its thirty minutes of rocket fun. We open the show with casual chat themed around the particular topic for the week (usually relevant to the guest), listen to an amazing reading as recorded by Karen, and chat with our guest in the last 10 minutes or so of the program.

We also take phone calls for the entire 30 minutes...hence the term, call-in talk radio.

When I say we, I mean we. This is not a show about me, for me, or by me (Blog Talk Radio won't allow me to schedule 24/7 for that), this show has a production staff of five (two hosts, a contributing reader, and to producers) and the support of the entire EWN social network. The show would mot be as much fun, entertaining, and informative if it were not for the support of the entire cast of characters.

The 10 minute slot reserved for guests has been, and will continue to be, nothing short of spectacular. We have interviewed award winning authors and have more scheduled (thanks to our crack production team). We also have editors lined up (not to be shot) and continue to look for anyone involved with all types of writing to be guests.

The format is rather loose and free, but we do feature the goings on at the Extreme Writing Now social club every week. There is always too much to talk about in too little time; which makes for a great, info packed show.

Not only can listeners call into each episode, but there is a chat room open during the 30 minute broadcast that is...well...lively is to dull of a word, but I'll use it here. Fans of the show pile in and listen, cut up, and help keep us on a broad course.

Why not join us some Sunday evening and reap some of the fun?

The Staff

A Face Made For Radio... Me! I am the main host of the show. His zero years of radio broadcasting experience include the radio job he almost landed at a state university, Write State. While he was attending the college he auditioned for a late night DJ slot. He came this close (imagine a very narrow gap between your index finger and thumb) to landing the job. He is meticulous in his preparation for each episode; sometimes he'll pour TWO beers for the broadcast.

A Face Too Pretty for Television...Bev Owens is the co-host, and main saint (look who she has to work with) of the show. Bev's radio experience can be tracked as far back as to when she would mend the holes in Marconi's socks. Her decades of air time show as she is nothing less than polished for every segment. Her in depth investigative reporting on events surrounding Extreme Writing Now have garnered exactly zero awards, but we are sure she will win something; even if it is massive amounts of pity (again, look at who she has to work with).

A Voice that Makes Birds Cry...Karen contributes a recorded reading for each episode, and her melodic treatment of every piece is nothing short of mesmerizing. The show is fortunate to have a talent such as hers give so freely of her time. Thanks Karen!

Hardest Working Producer This Side of the Other Producer....Kim Horton hustles. She is the main force behind guest acquisition and she is doing a stellar job. She has rooted around and signed only the best to be guests.

The Other Producer...Correen. You may know her as Clouda9, but she will always be Correen to the show. Her talents on display are unbound as she weaves a magic impish spell on the entire show. Ultra organizer and pretty darn good at getting guests too; we couldn't be a show so great without her keeping us in line.

Are You Interested in Being a Guest?...If so, contact us at EWNN and someone will be in touch to schedule you in.

WKRP in Cincinnati - The Complete First Season

One of DVD's most requested titles, WKRP in Cincinnati is a blast from the past and an absolutely golden oldie. But this first-season set is bound to cause static with fans who have eagerly anticipated its release. Because of pesky music rights, the songs don't remain the same. "Hot Blooded" is not playing when mild-mannered newsman Les Nessman (Richard Sanders) puts on a toupee in anticipation of an awards-dinner date with bombshell station receptionist Jennifer (Loni Anderson). It's "Beautiful Dreamer" and not "Fly Me to the Moon" that.... read the entire review at Amazon...

NewsRadio - The Complete First & Second Seasons

Amazon Price: $8.50 (as of 05/31/2012)Buy Now

With its shaky five-season tenure (1995-99) including a dozen different time slots and only one major Emmy nomination, the outstanding NewsRadio is the atypical sitcom of its age. While most of the '90s sitcoms were based around a single big name talent (Jerry Seinfeld, Candice Bergen, Drew Carrey), NewsRadio came from the same stock from earlier shows Taxi and Cheers: a relatively unknown cast that rarely ventured away from the place of business. These first 29 episodes (7 as a mid-season replacement the first year), deliver a consistently hilarious show about the day-to-day life with the eccentric staff of New York radio station WNYX. read the entire review at Amazon...

Although I'm not around as much as I'd like to be, it's great to be a part of such an awesome writing community, learning as I go. As Mimi says, kudos to everyone for making it such an inspiring site and for all the work that is put in by everyone on the radio show.
