Why a lens about extreme weather?

I have always been interested in the weather--especially extreme weather. I am fascinated by it. I love learning the different types of weather, weather phenomena, and how it affects civilization. The more extreme the more alluring. I enjoy finding out how storms and conditions develop and what will occur as a result. I can not get enough of the Weather Channel and the stories they broadcast.

In my research I even found information about something that only recently has been given a name-- Severe Weather Phobia I hope you enjoy this lens and my lens about Severe Weather Phobia too.

Enjoy!

Super Storm March 12-14, 1993

I was in this one!

We were driving from Michigan to Sarasota FL. We could not make it past Nashville TN. We ended up held up there for two days until we could get through the mountains and make our way to FL. So I spent my birthday in a Hotel!

Snow Storms/ Blizzards

I was in the Blizzard of '78 too!

We were off school for a week. The snow was so high in Dowagiac MI that we could not open our back door and it was almost as high as the monkey bars on our gym set in the back yard. We kids had a great time during that blizzard. I was in 5th grade I believe. A memory I will never forget!

Yes

Joan4 says:

We do try to stay prepared, especially in the winter. In the south, Ice and snow brings everything to a halt if/when it happens.

Barkely says:

We try to be prepared! Especially in the winter around here we get plenty of snow and ice.

Wednesday_Elf says:

Spent 13 years on the Georgia coast where we experienced one voluntary and one mandatory hurricane evacuation, so, yes, we were always prepared with the basic items, and a listed plan of action for 'leaving' for safety. Today I still keep all my 'important' papers in a 'ready to travel' box and my 'Weather Alert radio' is always plugged in.

Teddi14 says:

I try to keep basic items ready!

No

A little bit, we were out of power for 4 days and with the wood stove was able to keep us warm. but I should really have enough food and water for 3 months at least

This lens would help us know more about weather changes. And what impact and conditions would it bring to the people who would be affected by it. Good job!

Weather stories fascinate me, too. I've been on the fringe of -- and even had to evacuate for - a hurricane. Have lived in areas where the Tornado siren would sound, been through a blizzard or two, and even experienced a mild tremor from a California earthquake. Having lived on both the East and West Coast and throughout the Midwest and South, I've gotten to experience just about every form of extreme weather. I've had some rather interesting weather-related incidents occur to me in the past (plan a lens on those stories eventually :). I stay tuned to my weather alert radio, watch the Weather Channel, and have 4 weather sites online I check regularly! I guess you could say I'm pretty much fascinated with, and awed by, extreme weather.
