Extreme WoW Leveling Guide, the Review

Ranked #6,449 in Games, #293,187 overall

The Wrath of Slow Leveling

Wrath the of the Lich King is waiting, ready to provide you with new challenges, monsters, raids, a new battleground and arenas, and ten more levels to gain.

You thought squishing lowbies in Stranglethorn Vale with your 70 was easy? Soon you'll be able to do it with level 80s. Or be ganked by level 80s.

But what if you don't have any level 70s? You have to be 68 to enter Northrend, the new continent, so if you're not that high yet some serious leveling is needed.

You can buy Power Leveling, shelling out some pretty decent real cash and risking the Wrath of Blizzard (IE: Account Ban.)

You can wander around Azeroth on your own or with a pal, using rest XP as much as possible, hoping you can make 68 without losing your mind with the endless grindfest.

Or you can blow a few bucks and get the Extreme WoW Leveling Guide and blast your way to 70 quickly and easily. What's it going to be?

The Extreme Leveling Interview

I asked Shawn, the author of the Extreme WoW Leveling Guides, a few questions about his WoW playing, Wrath beta experience, his guides, and so on.

So how long have you been playing WoW?
I've been playing Wow since the Open beta of WoW Vanilla.

How many level 70s do you have? Which classes?
I have a total of 27 level 70s in total. 13 Horde, 14 Alliance, the only class that I don't have is the Warlock. I had one to level 54, however I retired him because it just didn't suite my style =P

I have 5 characters at level 80 in the open beta, one of them of course is the Death Knight! I have to say Wrath of the Lich King really brings a new life back into WoW. Feels like November 2004 all over again!

Do you raid? PvP? Or are you more focused on leveling
fast as research for your guides?

When the Ranking system came out, I was all for PvPing, and I reached rank 10 (Champion) it took out a lot of me, and really burnt me out (Had to play everyday for a few hours for about 3 months). I stopped playing for a while, then I was just leveling characters to find the best /played (time played in-game) I can get, that was what struck me to get my Extreme Leveling guide going.

What have you been doing with Wrath of the Lich King beta?
    1. Check out new contents - flying around Northrend checking out new maps. Icecrown looks great!

    2. Leveling (DUH!) - As I said before I have 5 characters in the beta, 2 on the Alliance side, and 3 on the Horde side! There are new types of quests in WOTLK but I wont spoil it for you guys. =]

Obviously you've been working with the Death Knights,
but what other characters have you been playing there?

The 5 characters that I have in the beta are
Death Knight, Shadow Priest, Mage, Warrior, Hunter

Wrath leveling is going to be a bit slower than the 60-70 process, needing a lot more xp per level. Do you have any special Wrath specific tips you care to share?
1.Blizzard has done a great job making leveling very fun in Wrath of the Lich King, my advice is don't bother grinding mobs for experience, your wont need to =]

2.I suggest that you have an Epic Flying Mount, which you will need at level 77, you can use your flying mount after you train Cold Weather Flying for 1000g (don't worry 1000g is not a lot if you are questing!)

3.Most of the zones have a central location for daily quests (you don't need to be 80 to take those quests) If you are a casual gamer, make sure you pick those quests up and do them as they are very easy and give tons of XP!

Do you do all the work and research or do you have a team helping out?
Actually I have a girlfriend assists me in building this guide. I have to say that she is more hardcore than I when it comes to WoW. =]

It's a ton of work to put one of these things (leveling guide) together, not just listing every quest in the right order and figuring out the most efficient path to take, but also linking every quest to WoWhead, adding and marking the maps, and so on.

There's also a fair amount of competition out there.

1) Why do it in the first place, and
2) What does your guide bring to the table that the others don't?

I do it because it is fun! I have been power leveling my characters or finishing games as fast as I can since I was playing games such as Super Mario all the way to Final Fantasy XI!.

Since I have been playing the Beta for a couple of months now, and thinking about it, it's actually not that much work, especially having my girlfriend to help me out!

Just to give you some extra info when I was writing the guide -- I make sure that I didn't put character in the Inn, just to make sure I get the least amount of rested bar to ensure my guide is as accurate as possible.

Another thing is that unlike other competition out there, I do NOT charge extra for my 70-80 guide. It is included once you purchase the 1-70 guide. =]

Why Bother With a Leveling Guide?

Won't endless grinding get you leveled just as fast? Can't you just grab any available quests and do them in whatever order?

Many quests send you all over the world, running back and forth, wasting a lot of time running around when you could be a lot more organized, Hitting several quests at the same time is an example.

A good guide will show you the right path to take to be doing as many quests at the same time and in an efficient a manner as possible. Then you hand in two or three or four quests at the same time and see the big result on your XP bar.

With a clear path to follow, every step of the way from 1-80, you never have to wonder about what's next. You will always be on the move, always gaining XP, never wandering about aimlessly.

Some people complain about "that slow area in the 40s (or 50s.)" With the Extreme Leveling guide you will never encounter that slow spot. While your pals look for he next place to grind you'll be picking up all the quest rewards and you will quickly pass them up.

Then they'll be asking you for leveling help!

  • Keep in mind that the Author of Extreme Leveling has 27 level 70s, and has played five to level 80 in the beta. Think he knows how to level fast?

Leveling Faster

Make sure that everytime you leave the game that you log out while at an Inn. The rest XP will significantly speed up your leveling.

Speed Up Your Leveling

Tips and Tricks to Speedy Leveling
  • Stay away from the Auction House. It's a huge time waster. You don't need the best gear to level.
  • Carry as many big bags as you can afford so that you can do several quests in a row without returning to town. Only sell loot to the vendors when you turn in quests. Send auctionable stuff to your auction house mule.
  • Skip any crafting professions. Even the gathering professions will slow you down a bit, though they will pay for your mounts later.
  • Once you have all your quests see which ones are in the same area. Always do as many quests at the same time as you can. Sometimes you will only be able to do one, other times you can do three or four at the same time.

Rest XP
While Shawn doesn't rest in an inn (he wants to avoid rest XP to keep his speed numbers standardized) your characters certainly can, which will greatly speed up your XP gain when you log back into them.

Got Friends?
If you level with a friend you will have less downtime, you'll kill things much faster, you'll be able to take on higher level mobs, and having a pal is nice if you're on a PvP server. All of this will more than make up for the lower XP you get per kill.

Blizzard's Friends Program
Recruit a friend and get 3x XP when you and the friend play together. You will tend to level faster than you skills can keep up and your gold supply will be a little low, but you will level fast.

Now Throw in a Hot Leveling Guide...
Add all of the above to a step by step path designed to get you leveled as quickly as possible and how quickly do you think you can reach level 70? or 80?

What's in the Extreme Leveling Guide?

First off, there's no filler. What you get are two things: some good leveling tips (like the above, but more of them) and the 1-70 (soon to be 1-80, with a free upgrade) guide itself.

You will want to download the Map Notes addon, but instructions come with the guide and the installation is easy.

The Extreme Leveling Guide is an Adobe PDF and has a clickable Table of Contents which will allow you to click to any part of the guide.

Want to start from level 40? Just click to the appropriate zone and go from there (Badlands or STV, in this case.)

A nice touch: Every quest in the guide in linked to WoWhead.com, so you can look up more quest info if you need it and if your quest log just isn't adequate (which it frequently isn't.) For most quests you won't have to look anything up, but the link is there, just in case.

Marked Maps: See below for an example. Each section of the guide has a fully marked up map, showing you where to go and where the quest objective is located.

More Mapping: Every quest listed in the Extreme Guide also has coordinates provided. With the map notes addon you can now to to your big map and see a list of coordinates. Look for the one mentioned in the guide, click it, and a spot on the map will glow. That's your destination.

In addition you can set a waypoint to that spot, which will put an arrow on your screen, showing you where to go. Just right click and of the map points and a little box will pop up, asking if you want to set a waypoint. Left click that and you're set.

See below for an example of one of the maps and a section from the guide.

1000 Needles from the Horde Leveling Guide

This is a screenshot from the guide, showing the 1000 Needles area. Note the arrows pointing the way and the numbers corresponding to which quest is at which point on the map.

Every zone in the Extreme Leveling guide, whether a starting or Outland zone, Alliance and Horde, has a similar map.

Durotar Map Showing Coordinates List and Points

Here's an example of the map addon that comes with the guides. The coordinates are given in the text of the guide, then you find the coordinates on your big map, click it, and the appropriate spot will glow on the map.

You can then right click the spot to set a waypoint arrow, which will point you in the right direction.

Power Leveling? Don't Buy It, Do It Yourself!

Power Leveling is the process of leveling your character much faster than would normally happen. Several services exist that will happily do this for you in exchange for an appropriate payment.

Depending on the level of the character (1-70, of course) and the amount of high end gear you want you are looking at a cost of $100 to $800 dollars.

Naturally, if you only have a very limited amount of time to play the game, if you have the cash, and all your pals are already 70, then this is a tempting way to go.

There are two main issues:
  • The Account Ban - Buying characters and services with real money is a violation of Blizzard's Terms of Service (ToS.) Therefore they will ban your account if they catch you.
  • If you jump freshly into a brand new 70, even with the best gear, you won't have any clue on how to play it. This won't exactly endear you to any teams out there.

Obviously if you already know the game and characters well then you can get up to speed quickly enough.

Doing It Yourself - Better and Faster

If you get the Extreme WoW Leveling Guide though, you can do it yourself, for a fraction of the cost, you'll know your character intimately, and you'll be much more valuable to any teams you join.

Depending on your amount of game time and the leveling service you might also make it to 70 faster, use the Extreme Leveling Guide, than if you use that service.

The DIY Power Leveling will result in a far more interesting character (because you will have a much better feel for it) and that will make your travels through the new zone (Northrend) easier and a lot more fun.

So treat yourself and click here to grab your copy of the Extreme WoW Leveling Guide and see how much faster you level your characters.
