Obama Art and Design gallery (and my Hawaii secrets)

ALOHA, Obama supporters! This lens is about Obama, his birth place (Oahu), some of Hawaii's hidden treasures, art, and the change we can all work together to achieve.

Inauguration Day is just the beginning. We join hands with all Obama ohana. "Ohana' mean 'family' in Hawaiian. if you are only ohana in political thought, come to Oahu for a pleasant visit! Enjoy the Aloha mood and check out some of the locations described here. Enjoy my photos of Oahu's 'best kept secrets', and a little info about where to go beyond the tourist traps like Waikiki. (I love Waikiki, and think you should see it. But there is more to Oahu!)
Are you an artist? You'll understand then, how I was inspired by the Aloha Spirit while designing some Obama Ohana t-shirts. Why the symbolism of multi-colored turtles, frogs, birds and fish? Because regardless of our differences, we can live and work toward a better world together.

There are links here where dogs, cats and birds state they are for Obama. Some my cat and dog pals posed for me, and I must say, they were very sweet to let me draw them. I'm a big supporter of the Humane Society of America, National Wildlife Federation and fostering wounded animals of every stripe or furry color. The animal themes are usual in my work because I care.

Obama design is more than a business idea. I worked hard for the campaign and the art comes from my heart. I love the embroidered 'Team Obama' hats, totes and t-shirts. Thanks to each of you who've been kind enough to buy and wear some of these phrases:
''Team Obama: Smart is Back!"
"Team Obama: Yes We did!"
"Team Obama: Science is back!"

This lens gives you some cool art from lots of artists. Really some amazing Obama art. Paintings, posters, more. These creative people deserve applause, and I am happy to give it. I want to share the joy that is art! And move all of us as a team toward something really GOOD! And are you going to Hawaii? Check out the gorgeous hidden places I've highlighted here. Obama's birth place is a richly diverse culture and ecosystem. See as much as you can when you visit.

Even if you weren't for Obama in the election, we can all work together from this day forward. If you were in DC for the Inauguration, feel free to share with us by commenting below!
As for my little contribution to making our world a prettier place,

About Obama Ohana (Hawaiian language for 'Obama family') design

Obama supporters, you are ohana.

This is a wonderful pastel painting of Obama looking a bit like Indiana Jones: by Wendy Wray. Saw this, loved it, had to share it. See more:Wendy Wray, pastel artist

Wendy''s painting looks so much like some of my Hawaii hikes. Enveloped in the misty island mountains, I designed Obama Ohana t-shirts. Hawaii has many aspects that lure and capture imagination. The terrain is varied, the outdoor discoveries robust with possibility. My 'Obama Ohana' designs revere Hawaiian turtles, frogs, birds, fishes, and whales. Obama Ohana is to be worn with the joy of Hawaii family gatherings. 'Family', or in Hawaiian 'ohana', refers to everyone sharing a quality of Being. An attitude. Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, so his family is called ohana. If you are an Obama supporter, you are Obama Ohana. Aloha to you, brothers and sisters.

Here's what's on my fridge! Barack Obama in Hawaii.

Oh, and with the stars-and-stripes, Presidential lectern, and HULA GIRL!

I know, it's ridiculously fun. A pal sent me the Obama paper-doll kit, and I had to place it on the fridge for inspiration.

Hawaii: birthplace of Barack Obama

1. One of the best kept secrets of Oahu: BYDOD-IN

One of my favorite places is the BYODO-IN Temple in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. The temple was established June 7, 1978 commemorating the first Japanese immigrants entering the islands. The Byodo-in was build without nails, and is a scaled replica of a temple at Uji, Japan, constructed over 900 years ago. The architecture represents a phoenix rising from ashes, reflecting hope and renewal.
Here is a photo I took in November, 2008. You can see the bird wings at the roof. Inside, you take off your shoes and can visit a beautiful giant Buddha statue. The grounds are very peaceful, with a stream full of koi and swimming black swans.

2. NA ALA HELE Hawaii State Park hiking trail

Norfork Pine forest with amazing vistas spanning valleys and mountains surrounding Honolulu. This hike is kind of tricky to find, because you have to meander through uphill residential neighborhoods, and the Park is not particularly well marked. I've never seen many tourists here. The locals love it, though.
This is a photo I took recently.

3. Waimea Valley Audubon Center

Get more info at Waimea Valley Audubon Center, Oahu.
This is a marvelous botanical and wild bird garden hike that allows an easy up hill walk to the top of the trail with waterfall and swimming hole. Wear mosquito repellent if you don't want bites. Then enjoy the many birds who, incidentally, are quite used to humans, and allow you to see them up close. Very nice gift shops and snacks to buy, too. Take your swim suit. There's a lifeguard on duty at the water.

Here's my Obama 'Change' logo worn by a model.

This logo was essentially donated to the campaign...

...who now owns the copyright. There was so much artistic interest in the Obama wave, the campaign opened up a design entry portal so that all of us who wanted to contribute, could. The butterfly logo was my way of demonstrating change, freedom, beauty.

Terrier with Obama frisbee t-shirt

Is this your terrier?

Could be. This guy is the dog of some of my best hiking buddies. A terrier is known to have staff rather than masters. It's true. Terriers are a handful. But this dog is a total Obama dog. He canvassed and hosted parties. He got dressed up for Christmas card photos. He talks a lot. Under the dining room table, he becomes very verbal. Do all terriers talk so much? Well, it's okay with us. He helped us get Obama elected. He can say all he wishes.

Obama Art 'mutts like me' poster by Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey does another great poster!

I like this blog very much. Thanks to Obama art report blog for a great story about Shepard Fairey's new Obama-inspired poster:

This little terrier looks a lot like some of my best hiking pals. And those wonderful little mutts at the local shelter need lots of love. So, buy this mutts like me poster and go adopt a shelter pet.
