What Is Ezine Advertising?

Ezine advertising is the process of placing ads in ezines.

But, lets back up just a little and first ask, "Um, what the heck is an ezine?".

An ezine is an electronic magazine that is sent via email to subscribers. The name comes from two words: electronic and magazine. Just take the "e" off of electronic and the "zine" off of magazine and there you have have it!

Some pronounce it ezeen and some ez(eye)n. Either way is fine. Some, you subscribe to but most you don't. It's just like a magazine subscription, but instead of receiving it in the mail, you receive it in your email. Some arrive once a month, others maybe twice a month. They all differ.

Now, when you are reading a magazine, what is one thing that you notice in your magazine? (Besides the articles, which of course are in ezines as well)............Ads? Yes, Advertisements! and lots of them. Different styles, different sizes.

Is Advertising in Ezines Effective?

Yes is the answer! and that's because the ads target a very specific group. You're advertising to a group of people who have already shown interest in what the ezine offers or interests them. How so?......because they subscribed (without being tricked!) to what you'll be advertising in......you have permission to advertise your business, product, or whatever to them! They expect it! They want it!

That's what makes ezine advertising one of the very best ways to market! It's so targeted. Perhaps more so than PPC(Pay Per Click). Plus, you don't need alot of money, that's a huge reason why it's so appealing. Compare it to an offline magazine and the difference in price is in the thousands.

And you know what? It works!

It's works great as a stand alone type of marketing, but it works even better in conjunction with other types of marketing.

5 Ways To Advertise in Ezines

The first one is the solo ad.

By far and away the most popular ad, but also the most expensive. Why is that? Well, a solo ad is just an email, setup to sell the subscriber on a product you're recommending. I guess you could say it's a sales letter. It goes out by itself to the entire mailing list of the ezine you've chosen.

Generally they are about 500 or 700 words long. Now, all ezines charge a little differently for their solo ads. It depends on the list size and it depends on what that publisher decides to charge.

The second type of ad is a sponsor ad.

A sponsor ad is a shorter type of ad, longer than a classified(which I will talk about shortly), shorter than a solo. It's generally between twelve and fifteen lines of text. Also very effective and they cost alot less than solo ads.

There are three types of sponsor ads: Top, middle, and bottom.

The top sponsor ad costs the most money(amongst the sponsor ads) because it's literally the first thing that a reader sees when they open the ezine. So, if you combine that with a attention grabbing title, then you've got the ball rolling in the right direction!

Okay, next, there is the middle sponsor ad. This ad placement also does pretty well, but not as well as a top ad, therefore it does cost a little less.

And I bet you can guess the last type of sponsor ad..........what? a left center sponsor ad you say?....no, no silly!.. it's a bottom sponsor ad.

The third type of ad is a Classified Ad.

We are all pretty familiar with this type of advertisement. These are the little ads that you may run in your local newspaper. They are about three to five lines long and whatever width the publisher decides to allow, usually about 60 characters wide.

Classified are cheap and serve to only build curiosity, not to sell a product or anything like that. They are simply about selling a click.

The fourth type of ad is the Banner Ad.

A banner ad is kind of like a billboard and they come in different shapes and sizes. Some may flash on and off, some may appear to rotate, and some may cause you to have a seizure............seriously.
Only ezines with HTML code can take on banner ads.

What Is HTML?

Here's what wikipedia says:
HTML, an initialism of HyperText Markup Language, is the predominant markup language for Web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document - by denoting certain text as links, headings, paragraphs, lists, and so on - and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects. HTML is written in the form of tags, surrounded by angle brackets. HTML can also describe, to some degree, the appearance and semantics of a document, and can include embedded scripting language code (such as JavaScript) which can affect the behavior of Web browsers and other HTML processors.

Got that? HaHa! yes, basically it's a different language. The website style ezines have this, not the text ezines.

The fifth and final type of ad is the Advertorial Ad.

The word advertorial is a combination of the words Advertisement and Editorial. An advertorial is an advertisement written in the form of an objective opinion editorial, and presented in a printed publication-usually designed to look like a legitimate and independent news story(wikipedia). Basically, it's a article where you can pitch a sale.

They are not seen to often these days, but they are still out there.
