Back in the '50s when network marketing really started, there was really only 1 way for the average person to get new customers - ask their friends and family.

Think about it - mass communication was really just getting started - only 50% of homes had a single TV.
Long distance calls were very rare, and cost a fortune. Door to door salesmen were common. So network marketing used the "technology" and culture of the day to market products and open the doors of opportunity to the non-business person.

An entire $80 billion industry was built that way. And since the your upline and my upline did it that way, and it worked for them, they still teach it.

It's a different world now. When people want to learn about something new, they go online first, not to a home party. Many of those now getting online for the first time are over 50 years old! People are innudated with 3,000+ advertising impressions a day! Families are more fragmented. Neighbors don't necessarily hang out together. People are over scheduled. People know more people than ever before, but relationships are not as deep.

So why are MLM trainers still teaching "old school" techniques like home parties and calling your high school football coach from 20 years ago?

MLM has a 93% failure rate. Could it be that the old way of doing business is one of the reasons for that excessive failure rate?

Enter online internet marketing. No warm market required. No hotel meetings. You don't need "connections" or to be a good presenter. And on the 'net, you are not limited to your local economy. More importantly, you don't have to learn how to take rejection.

But the 'net is a Wild Thing. Massive, limitless, untamed. You could lose money at the speed of light
with online advertising. At the same time, it is the most available means to build a business for the average person.

The key to using the internet to build your network marketing business is to market the way people use the net to get information. In other words, people go online first to research what they are looking for, then the look for the supplier. 70% of online searches are for LOCAL providers of goods and services. Your online marketing strategy should reflect that.

You can capitalize on the thousands of ways to build your list of prospects. If a 12 year old can build "500 friends" on MySpace, surely anyone can create huge lists of people. From those lists relationships can develop.
