Fabolous

Fabolous - Fabolous is an American rapper from Brooklyn, with full name John David Jackson.

His solo debut album Ghetto Fabolous in 2001 reached #4 in the Billboard 200 with four singles reaching Top 39 status. Two years later he released his second album Street Dreams. This album also made it to #4 in the Billboard album chart. In 2004 he released the next album Real Talk - it flopped and put a dent into his carreer.

With his latest album From Nothin' to Somethin' he seems to be back on track and has a hit in the top 30's in Billboard: Fabolous featuring Ne-Yo  Make Me Better

Fabolous - From Nothin' to Somethin'

It's hard to catch a break when you're Fabolous.

Though his skills as a manufacturer of blazing-hot street bangers and pop-crossover hits have not gone unnoticed by the hip-hop hype machine, the Brooklyn rapper hasn't come close to matching 50-Cent and similarly gifted superstars in the sales department. Which accounts for his decision, with album No. 4, to do somethin' about it.

From Nothin' to Somethin' rounds up a massive herd of talent-- Akon is here, and so are Swiss Beatz, Rihanna, Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lloyd, Junior Reid, Ne-Yo, and T-Pain.

It's a little hard to locate Fabo on "Change Up," the Akon track, but otherwise he goes about spreading his Fabolousness throughout: "Diamonds," a bling-centric track with Jeezy, benefits from a borrowed take-it-easy Southern drawl, "Brooklyn" brings it home for New York with a spirit seldom seen since the East Coast/West Coast war was at its nastiest, and "Return of the Hustle" solidifies a career built on street cred with an asphalt-hot beat. Start to finish, but especially on the Timbaland-helmed "Make Me Better," production is top-notch. If there's a disc that can restore the fabulousness to being Fabolous, Somethin' is it. -- Tammy La Gorce

On to the subject of Fab's new CD From Nothin' to Somethin' while i dont rate it as his best of all his work. I would give it 2nd best after his first CD which i still love.

Yes, he has more featured artists on this CD. If it works and makes the track flow better then why not put it on there. I'm really loving a lot of songs on this especially the hot joint with Ne-Yo, Diamonds w/Jeezy (the song is straight fire) one of my favs of his in quite awhile. While i dont know if everyone is expecting a CD similar to "Real Talk", I know i'm not. I don't want an artist to keep putting out the same material as their previous CD just because it sold well and is comfortable for them to make.

I like the CD because Fab choose to go out and have those artists on his new release. Along with hot flows, nice beats and solid song choices, like it or not Fab is here to stay. I wouldnt give a whole lotta weight to what others have about the cd, check it out for yourself. However you have to and see for yourself what folks already know. -- Derrick Jenkins "Lover of music/anime" (Hampton VA USA)

Fabolous Real Talk

Taken in small doses, Fabolous's for-the-club raps work nicely... well, for the club -- and nothing much else. On the addictive "Breathe" he reluctantly ditches his usual drawl and spits some urgent ghettocentric punch lines with great effect. Interestingly, on "Don't Stop Won't Stop," Fabolous charges that people continue to steal his flow.

Now, nobody's sure who has the copyright on the lazy delivery that Mase and Loon also employ, but that's a moot point on "Baby," where his crooner homey Mike Shorey sings over a familiar Michael Jackson sample (think De La Soul's "Breakadawn"). The obligatory Lil' Mo collabo "Holla at Somebody Real" is no "Can't Let You Go" although "Tit 4 Tat" offers a nice respite from the banality of the beats and lyrics -- but that might be because the ubiquitous Pharrell is on board. Sean Paul sounds like he phoned in his verses on "It's All Right," and, on "It's Ghetto," when Fab raps about his hood exploits from the living room of his palatial estate, he just doesn't sound that genuine anymore. -- Dalton Higgins

On his third album Real Talk, Fabolous has found the perfect mix of street and R&B. This album was executive produced by Clue, Ken "Duro" Ifill, and Skane. The first single, "Breathe" was an instant hit. The follow-up single, "Baby" featuring Mike Shorey is a radio friendly song. Mike Shorey and Fab really make good collabo's and this song is quickly climbing the charts. Mike Shorey also appears on the track "Young & Sexy," a hot song that also features Pharrell.

Fab is a loyal artist and continues to work with artists that compliment his skills. Lil Mo appears on the track "Holla At Somebody Real." Lil Mo gave Fab a big break when she put him on her track "Superwoman."

The intro "Exodus" by Black Ice is a track that will make you think, but it will also make you hit skip and head straight to the track "Don't Stop, Won't Stop." This song has a driving beat and awesome production. This is a nice song. Real Talk is a good album, but like past Fab albums, some tracks seem too much like filler, like album tracks that you could live without.

One song that stands out and has hit written all over it is "Girls." Reminiscence of Jay Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls," Fab gives a shout out to all kinds of girls from all kind of places. Keep your ears open for "Can You Hear Me," "It's Alright," and "In My Hood," these tracks are hot. Overall, Fabolous' third album is really good. The production is good and Fab, well Fab is just fabulous. -- Dorrie Wheeler

Fabolous Street Dreams

Fabolous would have us believe he's serving up Street Dreams, but the Brooklyn rapper's sophomore effort is more likely to rock the party than shake the boulevards. The F.A.B.O.'s smooth, deadpan flow cruises over benignly commercial beats (courtesy of Clue, Just Blaze, and Kanye West, among others), and the overall effect isn't hard enough to stand up to "official" street-issue hip-hop (think 50 Cent Is the Future or any M.O.P. release).

Sure, Fabolous is not without charm. His straightforward delivery of the never-too-deep subject matter enhances slinky, slangy club joints like the Track Masters-produced "Damn" and the R&B-inflected ballads "Can't Let You Go" and "Trade It All Part 2." The album also features solid guest appearances by Missy Elliott (the electro-funky "Sickalicious"), Mary J. Blige (a retooling of her classic "What's the 411" entitled "My Life"), and pop princess Ashanti ("Into You"), but the entire proceedings are stolen by the aforementioned M.O.P., whose verses on "Keepin' It Gangsta" illustrate what street is really all about. -- Rebecca Levine

Basically the problem with Fab is everything he's saying in this album you've already heard before because it's the same subjects from the last album. The production is the thing that makes the album worth buying. Fab does bring some hot punch lines to Street Dreams but that's about it. Either get this for cheap or burn a copy off one of your friends. -- K. Jones "Sonic Jones" (Philadelphia PA)

Fabolous Ghetto Fabolous

Ghetto Fabolous might be an album that appeals to younger hip-hop heads, but more-discerning fans will find that the freshman artist makes several mistakes that blunt his debut's impact. The missteps include uninspired subject matter (illegal business dealings, ghetto flossing, and fighting off persistent groupies); gratuitous use of the words "thug," "gangsta," and "playa"; and an entire song centered around a Notorious B.I.G. riff ("Get Right" is a mediocre "Players Anthem" knockoff).

On the plus side, the album's chock-full of guest appearances designed to please those aforementioned youngsters; Ja Rule's strident vocals on "Ride for This" almost drown out his host's more meticulous delivery. The album's one true bright spot is the dance-floor-friendly "Now and Later." With this one song, Fabolous lives up to the hype. -- Rebecca Levine

Faboulous made his debut with "Ghetto Faboulous". His boyish sound, leaves his audience unconvinced when he talks about hardcore issues, alot of the references he uses are old and weak and many of his tracks are monotous, and some of his rhymes are straight wack, the fact that DJ Clue produces most of the album doesn't help much either, as Clue is known more for his quanity than his quality.

Yeah I know thats a lot of negative things to say about an artist, but Fab has potential, he just needs direction. All the same the album does have some good beats and good collabrations make it an album worth checking out, "Trade it all" feat Jagged All is a classic club track and is just a nice cut to listen to when your cruising with your lady, "Take You Home" feat Lil Mo, "Cant Deny it" feat Nate Dogg also add to the albums content. "Ride for this" Feat Ja Rule, is not really a track for Faboulous, as his style doesnt blend well with Ja's.

The only tracks where Faboulous really comes out strong by himself are "Keepin it Gangsta" and "One Day" both tracks show that Faboulous can do more than R & B collabs. Problem is a good artist needs to carry his own albums, and Faboulous isnt yet there, also his sound is either somewhat likeable, or distinctly annoying. Faboulous is a commerical artist, so his success will come through for the mainstream audience, for younger kids, teens, and women, it wont come through in street level success as he isn't convincing there. 2 1/2. -- Constant (Vancouver, BC Canada)

Fabolous feat Ne-Yo Make Me Better Lyrics

[INTRO: Ne-Yo, Fabolous]
Timbo.
Hey, Ne-Yo.
Say what? Lo-So.
Hey, hey.

[CHORUS (Ne-Yo):]
I'm a movement by myself.
But I'm a force when we're together.
Mami I'm good all by myself.
But baby you, you make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.
You make me better.

[Fabolous]
You plus me, it equals better math.
Ya boy a good look but, she my better half.
I'm already bossin', already flossin'.
But why I have the cake if it ain't got the sweet frostin'? (yep yep yep yep).
Keepin' me on my A game (what what what what).
Without havin' the same name (that that that that that).
They may flame (but but but but).
But shawty, we burn it up.
The sag in my swag, pep in my step.
Daddy do the Gucci, mami in Giuseppes.
Guess it's a G thing, whenever we swing.
I'mma need Coretta Scott, if I'm gonna be King.

[CHORUS]

[Ne-Yo]
First thing's first, I does what I do.
But everything I am, she's my influ.
I'm already boss, I'm already fly.
But if I'm a star, she is the sky (ah ah ah).
And when I feel like I'm on top (she she she).
She give me reason to not stop (eh eh eh eh eh).

And though I'm hot (too too too).
Together we burn it up.

[Fabolous]
The caked up cut, the cleaned up ice.
When shawty come around, I clean up nice.
Dynamic duo, Batman and Robin.
Whoever don't like it, it's that man problem (eh eh eh).
And when I feel like I'm tired (ma ma ma).
Mami be takin' me higher (ah ah ah ah ah).
I'm on fire (but but but).
But shawty we burn it up.

[CHORUS]

[Voices]
Inside every great man, you can find a woman like a soldier holdin' him down.

[Fabolous]
And she treats me like a Don, watches for the hit.
Checks where I go, even watches who I'm with.
The right when I'm wrong, so I never slip.
Show me how to move, that's why I never trip.
And baby girl, you're so major, they should front-page ya (front page ya).
God bless the parents who made you (who made you).
Middle fingered anybody who hate the,
Way that we burn it up.

[CHORUS]

[Fabolous speaking]
Yeah baby, them lames you playin' with.
They gon' put you down.
We tryin' to compliment you, you know?
Make it better.
Top-notch Tim.
Nice-look Ne-Yo.
Livin' good Lo-So.
They ask you how you doin' now, tell 'em better 'den them.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

[CHORUS]
