Silk Fabric Wall Hangings by Laura Sims

Fantastic individually hand painted fabric wall hangings as a centerpiece for your wall.

As the breeze comes through they shift slightly, giving them an ethereal quality. Each of these fabric wall hangings in silk have a double layer which gives them more depth, rich color, and movement in the image.

Laura Sims paints each of these wall hanging by hand from her studio in Bakersville, NC. Bakersville is about 1 hour north of Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the Virginia border. Her latest work is a culmination of 20 years experience.

They weigh very little in comparison to a picture with a frame and installed with very little fuss. The mounts that come with Laura's paintings can be hung into drywall with two simple nails. All her mounts are made with North Carolina hardwoods and designed to complement each piece. The clean, Asian inspired design work well with the silks.

The painting is a mirror image placed side by side on one long piece of silk that drapes over the bottom rung of the mount. Its then secured with three strong magnets. The mounts go on the wall with two small nails, no re-enforcement necessary.

After the image is transferred to the silk and gets steamed, the dye transfers into the fabric which displaces the original black dye in the silk. This makes each painting color fast and durable for any use outside of direct sunlight.

Hand washable with cold water and mild soap. Not to be hung in direct sunlight.

You have not seen anything like these exceptional silk paintings!

Blood Root

This one has softer pastels. I love the image, with the appearance of movement in the background. The leaves appear to be windblown.

Jill Kennedy on Silk Painting

Here is a really quick video showing Jill Kennedy at the beginning of the silk painting process. Most people don't think of fabric wall hangings as an actual painting, which she shows.

This is a close up of a day lily found on her property in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Vibrant yellows and reds come out nicely in the mono-printing process.

Muscadine

Fabric Wall Hangings in Silk, Laura Sims

MuscadineHere is a fabric wall hanging featuring muscadine grapes, one of the varieties that grow well here in North Carolina. Its a good grape for jelly and jam, and is used for making sweet dessert wine.

Decent for eating as is, also. They are plentiful around Western North Carolina in September and October.
