Although in the past there was no actual party, it was only a matter of time before these little celebrations evolved into Baby Showers as we know them today.
They are not only a way to welcome the new baby but also a time to celebrate family and friends.
A newborn is a symbol of renewal, love and happiness, and the baby shower is a special opportunity for friends and family to join in on the momentous occasion of welcoming a new life.
Parents or expectant parents receive gifts for their newborn or expected child. In the United States, many people choose to have baby showers for both parents, and some people have a men-only shower.

After 5 straight weeks of sleepless nights, my husband and I were walking zombies. Our infant would wake every hour to 2 hours throughout the night and just scream. During the day she would also scream uncontrollably - even though the doctor found nothing wrong with her physically. I had convinced myself that she just wasn't a happy baby like our 6 year old was and life with Isabel would be tough!
Then I searched Amazon one night under "Colic" and found this book and video. Even though we have absolutely no time to read, we did watch the video (while she wailed). My husband tried the swaddling and shhing techniques that night and she quieted down after about 10 minutes. Now 1 week later she calms after 5 min or so AND she is sleeping 4 hours at a time. We feel great and she finally looks peaceful - and not agitated.
Both the book and video are geared toward the first 3 months of life.... and the notion that most babies 1st 3 months of life are really the 4th trimester in their developement. Our first child slept soundly from day one..... but we were blown away with this second one. Thank you Dr. Karp! We finally feel like humans again and the stress level in our home has dropped tremendously.
Baby Shower Games and Activities
Some classic activities at baby showers include:Baby shower bingo.
Guess the birth date or guess the sex.
Guess the expectant mother's girth: guests cut pieces of ribbon, yarn, or toilet paper to a length they believe matches the mother-to-be's tummy circumference.
Another similar game is tying a string around her abdomen, and if it breaks for one person, it's expected she or he's the next new parent.
Guess the baby food flavor: guests have to taste-test several flavors of baby food and try to identify them.
Other games include a diaper throw game, and the diapers have candies or chocolate stuff.
Opening the gifts in front of the guests.
Serving cake, though any type of food or beverage might be served.

My son has been using this playmat since he was 2 months old. He is now 7 months and still reaches for it daily. He has learned to flip it over so he can reach the higher toys. I have yet to replace the batteries and everything still works great. The music plays for quite a while so you don'thave to keep running over to restart it. My son also loves the crinkle leaf and zebra tail on the mat itself. Since he has been rollling over, he can now chew on them and it is one more thing to keep him occupied! I highly recommend this line of products!

I love the idea of a Baby Gift Basket as a baby shower gift.You can choose the colour and what is in the basket. This has got to be one of the most useful gifts for Baby as it can combine all the little things that are often forgotten but that are the most important.
They can include bath accessories including face washers and towels, also small soft toys for baby. We all need baby oil for massage and soap for that oh so smooth baby soft skin.

You can buy many fun and colourful Baby Shower decorations as shown below. If you can keep the Baby Shower in one of two rooms, it will be a lot easier to decorate.You may find that you can have a fun day inviting friends around to make your own decorations a few days before the actual baby shower.
Hang your colourful decorations around the walls. I love the idea of a fake clothes line with tiny baby clothing hung on it, and dont forget the tabel decorations as these are really the most important of all.
I think its best to choose a Theme first, maybe its a colour or something the new Mom loves and decorate around the Theme. You really cannot go wrong that way.

Really, the easier you can make the food menu the better as you will have plenty to do without spending all day in the kitchen.I suggest more snack or finger foods.or what about a desert party. Make 4-5 incredible deserts before hand, Then just cut them up and serve with champagne. I am thinking Cheesecakes, pies, icecreams and Mud Cakes.
Another idea could be tiny sandwiches and pastry savories and Coffee.
Whatever it is, if you can prepare it all the night before then you can be the host with the most and enjoy the shower too
