The Facebook App for iPad is Here!

Hooray, the Facebook app for iPad is finally here. Now you don't have to use an alternate Facebook app like Friendly if you want to use a Facebook app on the iPad. I wonder what's going to happen to all those other apps people use on the iPad to access Facebook--will everyone switch to the official Facebook app?

All I know is I like the Facebook app for iPad so far, but it's not perfect (is anything really perfect?)

My Short Little Facebook App for iPad Review

The OFFICIAL Facebook app for iPadicon (iTunes Link) isn't bad. You can access things you'd expect to be able to access on the Facebook website, such as your News Feed, Messages, Events, Friends, Groups, some apps, Account Settings, and more.

Photos
Photos look good on the Facebook app (whether in your Photo Album, or in updates). You can click on a thumbnail of a photo to make it full screen, then scroll through the photos by swiping to the left or right.

When you want to close a photo that's full screen, you can just tap on the photo so that a 'done' button appears in the top left hand corner and click the done button. I know this because I thought I was stuck in full size photo mode for a minute.

News Feed / Updates
When I clicked on my news feed it had 'People You May Know' at the top above my friends' updates, which I didn't like. But the updates seem like they would be on the website. I watched a YouTube video that was embedded in an update and it worked just fine.

Messaging
I sent a message to someone using the Facebook app and then when they replied, it dinged when I got a message.

It's easy to create a new message by clicking on the messaging icon at the top (the icon that has 2 chat bubbles). Then, click the icon on the right hand side with a pen and paper to create the message.

Can you play GAMES on the Facebook app for iPad?

OK. Playing Facebook games on an iPad is the main reason I was excited about the Facebook app. So far, for the Facebook games I play it just links you to the iPad app for the game if there's one available. In other words, it seems you can't play ANY Facebook game through the Facebook app for iPad, but only some that already have apps (and then it just goes to the app), and perhaps others that are integrated with Facebook (or will be in the future)

To find what games are available, on the left hand side of the Facebook app for iPad, it will say Apps (if not, you might have to click the button on the top that has 3 horizontal lines) and you'll see some entries under it which aren't all games. Click "See All" under Apps to see all the games (among the apps) you signed up for that are available to play on an iPad

I expect more Facebook games will be added (I hope) now that there's a Facebook app for the iPad.

Love it or hate it, Facebook is verrrrry popular, and it took awhile for it to get an iPad app. Are you a lover or a hater (of the Facebook app)? Perhaps you still like another app for accessing Facebook on the iPad (or just use Safari...) or maybe you think it's worth the wait.
