The best way to think about rounds of Hatchlings is with a basketball analogy.

In Basketball, you play hard for four quarters trying to amass the biggest score possible. Then, at the end of the fourth quarter, a winner is declared and the game ends. At that time you are ready to start a new game. When you start the new game, some things carry over (for example, statistics players earned in the previous game, bonuses they received according to their contracts, etc). The thing that does not carry over is the winning team's lead. If a basketball team wins a game by 20 points they don't start the next game with a 20 point lead.

Hatchlings is similar. When a round ends, it is akin to a Basketball game ending. Scores are finalized and rankings are solidified. Most things carry over to the next round. You will keep your Hatchlings, your shells, and your special eggs. You will also be issued a certificate to commemorate your achievement in the preceding round. What gets reset is your score and ranking.

Scores are reset to zero for the new round to put everyone on a level playing field again. This gives new hunters a chance to compete fairly with old-timers and allows you an opportunity to rank highly regardless of your performance in the past round.

After about a half hour of downtime (while certificates are being issued and scores are being reset) a brand new round will begin!

When special eggs retire they are moved into the Warehouse. When retired eggs move to the warehouse you can buy them with shells. For more information about shells read on.

Shells
Shells are the main currency system in Hatchlings. They are very similar to tokens or credits in other games. The name has just been altered to fit in with the egg theme. There are many ways to gain shells.

Every time you collect an egg, one shell is added to your basket. You get 2 shells when you collect an egg from your own basket.

Every time someone collects an egg from your basket you gain one shell as well. (That's why you can earn shells when you're away from the computer.) This works well if you add friends for Hatchlings.

You can pay real money to gain shells.
Donor Shells
Donor shells are basically the same as shells but you can only receive them by:

NOTE: When you purchase shells you receive equal amounts of Donor Shells AND Regular Shells! So, you are really getting double the number of shells. Also, each of the companies offer to sell you shells. Make sure you click on the company and the actual offer you want or you may find that you are receiving a recurring monthly service (Peanut Labs offers this) or the wrong amount of shells. OfferPal's prices are $4.99 for 499 shells (remember, it's actually 499 donor and 499 regular shells). The other companies offer round amounts - $10.00 for 1,000 shells, for example.

This is a great find. This egg will give any one of your hatchlings full "health". Each hatchling is full at 10 eggs. Each day, your hatchling loses one egg. When the hatchling reaches 0 eggs, it runs away. When you find eggs and feed it to your hatchling, it gains one egg "health". With this burger super egg, it gains all its health.
