Facial exercises area a great way to help fight the years off your face. I am a believer in all natural skin care as well. Things you have right in your kitchen can help fight off wrinkles and fine lines.

I'm a 61 year old bloke, and don't have a single wrinkle (honest!) love the lens though, even though it now contains a lie (mine, that is)
  • wrinklestudent Oct 19, 2011 @ 10:28 am | delete
I heard that facial exercises actually contribute to wrinkles. Have you heard this?
  • thrivingmom Oct 20, 2011 @ 1:32 pm | delete
I have heard people say that before, but it's just an old wives tale. There is no evidence at all to explain why exercising your facial muscles will cause wrinkles. In fact, everything I've read tends to indicate that exercising your facial muscles benefits you just as much as exercising any other muscle in the body.

As for your earlier question about Botox, it is a toxin that actually temporarily paralyzes the muscles. Paralysis of the facial muscles is completely different from exercising them.

I'm a firm believer in all forms of exercise. I workout my entire body and I believe I look and feel younger because of it.
  • Ladymermaid Oct 14, 2011 @ 7:00 am | delete
Just popped by once more to recheck on the facial exercises. Great information so you will probably see me stopping back a few times for a refresher.

I added this page to 1 of 2 of my beauty pages. Awhile back there was a problem with pics here on Squidoo, but since that was corrected - I remembered to check back here on your page and have now added it to mine.

You can see it at www.squidoo.com/health-and-beauty-for-women
There are several different articles there on a range of beauty topics.

WOW! First time I heard facial exercises = less aging

Don't forget to do regular exercise though (cardio and stuff). Works great against aging anytime :)

    Love your stuff!

I was looking for facial exercises to help with TMJ (jaw problems) do you know if any of these would help with that?
  • thrivingmom Mar 29, 2011 @ 9:02 pm | delete
Absolutely. The jaw exercises on this lens will help strengthen that joint so that it will be less prone to popping and aching. The hinge joint in your jaw is just like any other joint. It's held together by ligaments and muscles and you can strengthen them through exercise.
  • HealthyBodee Mar 27, 2011 @ 2:58 am | delete
Wow, I never knew there was such a thing as facial exercise. I know the rest of me definitely needs it but I never thought about my face. Looking at it now, I suppose it really could do with a work-out....

I've been meaning to try facial exercises. Nothing to lose (except some wrinkles).
  • Nibbled Mar 18, 2011 @ 11:39 pm | delete
Wow, I think you can see a difference in your before and after photos. Incentive enough for me to give this a try. I actually read about facial exercises on the Daily Mail awhile back and started trying them at my desk before a coworker caught me making faces and I was too embarrassed to try them again, lol. Will have to give it a shot somewhere a little more private next time.

I was lucky to be blessed with good genes. My mother and father were mistaken as the parents to my little boy (I was 26 at the time!) and I was mistaken for his big sister. lol!!! My mother and father without any type of cosmetic surgery have always looked younger, but I don't want to take that for granted. I will give this a try. Great lens. Blessed by a Squid Angel.

I have no idea if they work, but I appreciate your specific instructions. Maybe I will try the Cheek ones for several weeks to see what I think. I'm definitely old enough that I need some help! I should be a good test of their effectiveness.
  • RebeccaE Oct 31, 2010 @ 11:02 am | delete
well I will need to try this out. I am still youngish.. but never too soon. I figure then later on it's a habit.
  • rasudesign Oct 27, 2010 @ 3:47 pm | delete
Hmm... I never really believed facial exercises worked but I just tried some of them listed here and could feel my muscles working. It makes sense. I will try the program for 6 weeks and let you know what I think then! I could stand to lose the double chin... :) Thank you!
  • thrivingmom Oct 27, 2010 @ 5:16 pm | delete
Great! Take a picture today. Do the exercises daily for 6 weeks then take another picture. I don't strip html from comments so please feel free to post pictures of your results. :)

I find this to be very interesting. Can this be duplicated in the lab? I have seen years ago that a Motivation and Emotion Psychologist (Yes, that is a real title.) mapped all the muscles for emotion and the percent of time utilized for each facial expression or emotion. This was very reproducible.
