All About Emperor Penguins
Emperor Penguins are the largest of the 17 species of penguin.
The Emperor Penguin lives year round in the Antarctic, breeds there, lives off the food found around the coasts, and is the only Penguin that can tolerate the Antarctic's icy weather year round.
These fascinating seabirds are the stars of the movie March of the Penguins and are very easily recognized by their tall stature and yellow colouring around their necks.

Emperor Penguins are amazing divers!
How long can an Emperor Penguin hold its breath? It really depends on how long the Emperor penguin dives, but most dives last for about 5-6 minutes. The two longest dives on record lasted 22 minutes!
How deep do Emperor Penguins dive? Most of the dives an Emperor Penguin makes is between 100 and 200 meters. The deepest dive on record is 565 meters deep.

So, what do Emperor penguins eat? Emperor penguins, like all penguins, are carnivores and catch their food in the ocean. The diet of the Emperor penguin includes krill, fish, squid and other various crustaceans.
Emperor penguins are able to dive deeper than any other known bird species, to include all other species of penguin.

Where do Emperor Penguins live?
Emperor Penguin Habitat
You will only find Emperor Penguins in Antarctica, they don't live anywhere else in the world.
Emperor penguins do not migrate, they spend the entire year in Antactica and are one of the few animals to winter there.
Emperor penguins live on the Antarctic ice and feed in the waters of the Antarctic. They even breed and lay their eggs during the freezing temperatures of the Antarctic during winter.

On land a small group of penguins is called a waddle of penguins.
At sea, a group of penguins is called a raft.
A group of Penguin chicks is called a creche.
Penguins nesting are called a rookery but sometimes this is also called a colony.
A group of rookeries together is also called a colony.
The term rookery and colony are sometimes interchanged.
There are currently a little over 40 known Emperor Penguin colonies in Antarctica and more are being found.

- What is it that is so adorable about penguins? There is something certainly. I read Runner's World years ago and there was someone who wrote a column using The Penguin as a byline -- it was basically meant to be the view from the back of the pack. Oh, it looks like he's still writing. I love this quote from a previous column: So if you see me at a race, and I look like a 60-year-old guy waddling along, don't worry. I'm fine. I'm better than fine. I'm happy. You see, I remember those words that first appeared here 13 years ago: "The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
