Strange Facts About The Moon I Bet You Never Knew

When it comes to the moon there are several facts that never seem to get mentioned in schools or in general conversation either.

That's because our moon is a mystery to us and everything that we 'think' we know about the moon is quite possibly guess work at best!

Keep reading to find some strange facts about the moon that I bet you never knew. Be sure to let me know if you have any strange moon facts of your own and how many you knew about - be honest though :).

How The Moon Has A Strange Orbit Of The Earth

Wonder how the moon arrived in its weird orbit?

Moons Strange OrbitWhen we get told about the moon in school we never seem to get told about the 'facts' that cannot be explained by modern day science. For example, we don't get told that the moon's center of mass is about 6,000 feet closer to the earth than its geometric center.

Think about it this way ...

If I sit on a kids roundabout and I stay in the middle, I'll quite nicely carry on spinning round and round. If I stick my rather large bottom on the outside of the roundabout, I'm going to be fighting to stay on!

The moon SHOULD be woobling about all over the place up there, it's not though so how is that possible? No one is sure so we don't bother talking about it. It's also not spoken about that our moon is the only one that we know of that stays put in its orbit.

It seems that things are just a little too perfect up there in orbit. How strange is it that the moon completely cover the sun during an eclipse? It sits up there spinning at just the right speed, in just the right place and yet there seems to be no reason whatsoever that the earth should do this. What are the chances that this happened all by itself?

Strange Lights On The Moon

Reported by NASA themselves!

Strange Moon LightsIt's common for people to 'think' they might have seem something in the sky but as far as NASA was concerned, this was much more than just some people noticing things. They put so much credence into the sightings of strange lights on the moon that they actually established Operation Moonblink to look into it further.

What isn't commonly spoken about is the fact that they documented 28 of these lunar events over a short period of time. So what are these flashing lights that have been seen and documented throughout history?

Shockingly, no one knows what they are!

It seems that as far back as the early nineteenth century that Sir John Herschel of England saw and documented these strange events during an eclipse. He claimed that the lights seemed to be moving ABOVE the moon - other astronomers of the time then came forward with their own findings of strange lights on the moon that closely resembled city lights.

NASA don't actually tell us what they are or what they even think they might be - with the internet though we are having more and more shares from amature astronomers which clearly show we have flashing lights going on all the time!

There are thousands of these videos out there

Some people who look at these strange lights feel that they could be unidentified in nature, others are still mystified at what they actually are .... what do you think?

Weird Things Found On The Moon

Now how did these things get on the moon?

The ShardThere really are some strange things being discovered on the moon. Although it is a common belief that the moon is 4.5 billion years old rocks that we found on the moon have been dated at 5.3 billion years old - now how would that happen? Stranger still is the fact that the dust that these rocks were sat on have had another billion years or so added on top of that!

Now here is where it get's plain old odd. The dust is thought to be created from rocks themselves but it seems that the chemical composition of the rocks and dust don't match!

The moon has no magnetic field yet the rocks were magnatized. It's known that this couldn't have happened from coming a little too close to earth at some point because the moon would have been destroyed in the process. Now how did it happen? That moon is starting to become a bigger mystery than when we started!

The moon has also had some weird images taken of strange looking places/things. NASA has put most of them down to 'illusions' or tricks of the light and dismissed anything alien up there. However, there are a few 'things' there that have been pictured that even NASA has yet to answer - the Tower for one and the Shard for another. The Tower actually raises out of the moon for almost five miles in a spire like shape and the Shard is an obelisk shape that goes up for a mile and a half and there is NO KNOWN natural process that could cause this to happen. Wonder where they might have come from?

I like reading facts or learning things that most don't think about.
Are you selling this lens and if so how much?

There are some ancient stories from Sumeria, translated by Zecharia Sitchin (see my lens), that were supposedly written by the Anunaki (the Gods Of Old) and which tell of how the moon was made, by a collision of another planet. The Asteroid Belt supports the theory that eons ago there may have been a collision in our Solar System, and these space rocks are the remains. It's all very fascinating, especially the lights on the moon and other strange sightings. Something doesn't quite add up when it comes to the Moon, or Mars for that matter. I sometimes wonder if there are cover ups to protect us from the truth. Who knows...

Strange fact #4 (strange because it's a common misconception): the curved dark portion of the crescent moon is in fact *not* the Earth's shadow. Go figure.

Interesting stuff. I've never noticed those lights on the moon (or what look like lights on the moon), even through a telescope.

If you want something really weird, current theory suggests Earth was impacted by a Mars sized object. This is the theory for 30 or so years. Read the current theory in the Big Splat.

I find the moon mesmerizing and love a good mystery. Thanks for exposing me to these confounding thoughts. Just proves that we know very little about the true mystery of space. Very interesting lens!
