Music from the Faerieworlds Festival
Faerieworlds is an annual gathering for faeries and their human friends at the Mount Pisgah Arboretum in the Buford Recreation Area just southeast of Eugene, Oregon.
Faerieworlds was started in Arizona by founders Emilio and Kelly Miller-Lopez of the band Woodland and Robert Gould, the creator of the transmedia company Imaginosis. It moved to Oregon in 2004 and was held at Secret House Winery from 2005 to 2008. In 2009, Faerieworlds moved to Mount Pisgah. So many people show up in costumes that it's hard to tell the performers from the audience. There are faerie wings in abundance and more than a few wizards, goblins, satyrs and other strange beings from the worlds of fantasy and myth.
Music is a uniting force of the Faerieworlds community with performances on several stages throughout the afternoons and evenings. This lens presents some of the music from performers who have taken the stage on a magical musical weekend.
For the most part, faeries listening to the music presented on this lens won't be sitting quietly on their toadstools sipping nectar. They'll be on the ground dancing their wings off! The way Faerieworlds performers Tricky Pixie described their CD Mythcreants should give you some idea of what the music presented here and on other Faerie Music lenses is about: "Gypsy Celtic folk rock for naughty punk faeries."
This lens features performers who have released three or fewer CDs. I've made separate lenses for some of the performers who have released more than three CDs. These lenses are listed in the Faerieworlds, Faerie Music & Related Lenses section following the groups featured on this lens.

Faun
Headlining Band for Faerieworlds 2009 & 2010
The German pagan folk band Faun performed on Bad Faeries Night (Saturday) at the Faerieworlds Summer Celebration 2009. It was their first performance in the United States. They also performed later that year at FaerieCon, the East Coast and indoor version of Faerieworlds and headlined again at Faerieworlds in 2010.
Faun now has its own lens at Faerie Music: Faun featuring information about the band, photos, videos, links to their CDs, DVD, MP3s and more.
Delhi 2 Dublin
Two Punjabi guys walk into an Irish pub...
...meet a hot fiddler, take her to an afterhours party and pick up a sitar-playing busker along the way. Nuff said." - CDBaby
Delhi 2 Dublin's first Faerieworlds appearance was at the Summer Celebration in 2009. They were an instant hit with the crowd and were invited to perform at the Faerieworlds Winter Celebration in January 2010. They were back at the Summer Celebration in 2010, too.
Delhi 2 Dublin originated in Vancouver, BC, Canada from a one-time club night called "Delhi to Dublin." This led to requests for additional performances and the members' decision in March 2006 to stay together as a band. The five members come from various influences. Since they don't fit into any specific genre, they've decided they can do what they like and their audiences have come to expect nothing less than their eclectic sound. They describe their sound as "electro, acoustic, Celtic, Punjabi fusion with a touch of reggae, breakbeat, drum 'n' bass and hip hop."
The members of Delhi 2 Dublin are Tarun on tabla and electronics, Kytami on fiddle, Sanjay on vox, Andrew on electric sitar and guitar, and Ravi on dhol.

Brother
Didge, meet Bagpipes. Bagpipes, meet Didge.
"...a rock sound that falls somewhere between New Model Army and Midnight Oil, with a strong, tribal thread that brings it all together."
Denver Post Reverb, Colorado, USA
Brothers Angus, Dalbo and Drew (aka Didgeri Drew) arrived in Los Angeles fresh from Australia around the turn of the millenium. They started by busking on the streets and at Venice Beach, the Hollywood Bowl and Universal Studios. They have evolved an entirely original sound that mixes the trademark Australian instrument, the didgeridoo, the Scottish Highland bagpipes and tribal percussion along with powerful vocals and guitar. They have released twelve CDs (three, from CD Baby, are listed below) and have toured all over the United States. Their tour dates have also taken them to Canada, Japan, France, Egypt and, of course, Australia.
Michigan's Muskegon Chronicle hailed them as "the most popular act in the six-year history of the Michigan Irish Festival." They made their Faeriworlds debut at the Summer Celebration 2010.

Trillian Green
Psycho-Tantric Juju Jazz & Metamorphoses
Trillian Green is an acoustic psycho-tantric dance music trio comprised of Christine Gunn on cello, Ben Klein on flute, and Jarrod Kaplan on percussion. The group formed at the Oregon Country Fair (held in mid-July just down the road from Secret House Winery in Veneta, Oregon) in 1994 and built a following through a mailing list and touring on the West Coast. They are known not only for their great musicianship but also their fervor in playing which gets audiences up and dancing, foot-stomping and cheering.

Stellamara
The Near East meets medieval modal music
"The power in the music is obvious from the opening tones - Listening to Stellamara is a new experience of mystical fables, deep soulful voices, rhythms from the core of the earth and expansive waves of music that ebb and flow as they penetrate through and beyond the listeners spirit into unseen horizons barely even imagined." --Backroads Music
Stellamara had its beginnings in vocalist/producer Sonja Drakulich's vision to create devotional music based in Near Eastern and medieval modal traditions. This has developed along with the talents of multi-instrumentalist Gari Hegedus and cellist/co-writer Rufus Cappodocia. Together they have created music rooted in Turkish, Arabic, Balkan, Medieval European and Persian musical traditions. The music reveals a relationship between these different cultures while at the same time going beyond tradition. The three core members are joined on stage and in the studio by Near Eastern/Klezmer clarinetist Peter Jacques, Arabic and Balkan percussionists Faisal Zedan and Tobias Roberson, and their newest member, multi instrumentalist/ percussionist Evan Fraser.
Stellamara made their first appearance at Faerieworlds July 30 to August 1, 2010.

Telesma
Taste the color of sound
"To experience Telesma live is to become part of the show. More than just music, it's a swirling, whirling, twirling event -- it's extremely hard not to become involved in the swaying, hypnotic rhythms that pour forth from the stage." -- Michael Macey of the Chesapeake Music Guide.
Telesma's sound has been labeled "electro-acoustic psychedelic world dance music." It incorporates Middle Eastern and African drumming, Indian raga and kirtan, electronica, psychedelic and hard rock, jazz, improvisational and dance music. It combines modern instruments and technology with the ancient sounds of the Australian didgeridoo, the kubing (a bamboo version of the jaw harp), tribal and African drumming, plus the human voice.
Telesma first appeared at a Faerieworlds event in November 2009 at FaerieCon in their home town of Baltimore, MD. They also appeared at the Faerieworlds Summer Celebration in 2010.

Gaia Consort/Bone Poets Orchestra
Gaia Consort's founding members Christopher Bingham and Sue Tinney unveiled their new band at Nudestock '97 (the band's label is called Suddenly Naked Arts Collective). Based in Seattle, Gaia Consort hasn't tried to make it into the big time. Instead they've played house concerts and self-produced shows in halls, building a fan base that is very supportive. Their biggest gigs are festivals like Faerieworlds, the Heartland Pagan Festival in Kansas, and the Wic Can Fest near Toronto, Ontario.
According to their website, "Gaia Consort sounds like a movie sound track for the gathering of the tribes. Include some intelligent lyrics about evolution, sensuality, engaging the natural world, and then throw in a string trio. Imagine Ian Anderson with Peter Gabriel doing a mash-up between So and Thick as a Brick."
Also according to their website, Gaia Consort is morphing into the Bone Poets Orchestra. Their first concert under that name was in Redmond, Washington on May 9, 2009.

The Wicker Men
The Wicker Men are Patience Yanderling and Hoji Firemaker from Southern California. Yanderling, a singer/songwriter, primarily plays a double-neck six- and twelve-string guitar. His voice can range from depths similar to those of the Guto Monks to soaring ballads. Firemaker is a multi-percussionist who also plays an instrument he created called a bell harp. Their performances combine influences of the Druids, folk storytelling, rock rhythms and Gypsy passion. Their performances at Faerieworlds draw increasing attention and acclaim with each year.

Kan'Nal
Tribal rock band Kan'Nal formed gradually starting with lead singer/songwriter Tzol meeting with lead guitarist Tierro in a small Guatemalan town. That meeting resulted in their first album. A year later, they returned to the same town and this time met bass player Rodolpho and performance artist/singer Teresita who joined the growing tribe. Later that year they recruited Rodolfo's friend, drummer Gilly Gonzalex from San Antonio. Didjeridoo player/percussionist Aaron Jerad joined them all in Yucatan.
"Kan'Nal's concerts are spectacular: Hypnotic percussion, skull-crushing guitar and buzzing didgeridoo create a spirit-channeling framework for Tzol's primal screams and sensual, son-of-Tarzan vocals. Kan'Nal's two female members -- mesmerizing hippie-chick dancers -- gyrate as if possessed, eyes rolled back, sometimes holding deer antlers to their craniums." -- The Washington Post
