Headliners at Faerieworlds and FaerieCon in 2009 and 2010
Faun is a German pagan folk band formed in 2002 by Oliver SaTyr (Oliver Pade), Elisabeth Pawelke, Fiona Rüggeberg and Birgit Muggenthaler. They were joined two years later by percussionist Rudiger Maul. Niel Mitra was a guest musician on their first album and later became a full-time member.
Faun's sound combines vocals, mediaeval instruments, electrronic instruments and vocals in a variety of old and modern languages. The band coined the term "pagan folk" to label their music. It is also regarded as a good example of Mittelalter, a German style combining metal and folk influences.
Since their founding, Faun has attracted a growing fan base by playing festivals and concerts all over Europe. While they do perform some slow ballads, they are particularly known for their lively and very danceable music suited to summer festivals and large halls with cleared floors.
In 2009 Faun made their first trip to the United States to perform as the headline band at the Faerieworlds Summer Celebration held for the first time at Mt. Pisgah Arboretum near Eugene, Oregon. They were an instant hit with the faerie folk and have since returned for performances at FaerieCon near Baltimore, Maryland in November 2009, Faerieworlds in 2010 and FaerieCon again in 2010.

Faun in Concert
FaerieCon in Maryland, November 2010
Faun's set at FaerieCon on November 13, 2010 at the Baltimore Marriott Hunt Valley Inn was recorded and can be seen as one of several recorded performances on Faerieworlds' UStream channel. The sound was off until 4;45 into the video, but once it comes on, the quality is excellent due to the computer used to record the set being plugged directly into the sound board.
Check out the rest of this lens while you're waiting for the sound to start. It's definitely worth the wait.

- Great lense! Faun is an amazing band, but I recently discovered some new talents in the world of Pagan folk music, such as The Moon and the Nightspirit from Hungary and Omnia from Netherlands. These one are awesome!

- Omnia performed at FaerieCon in October 2008. FaerieCon is an indoor East Coast event presented by the Faerieworlds folks. I know Kelly and Emilio Miller-Lopez, two of the Faerieworlds founders, are fans of Omnia, so I hope some day they'll come to Faerieworlds or the Winter Celebration. I hadn't heard of The Moon and the Nightspirit before.

- Thanks, Margo! Wow, you were quick - the lens hadn't been up for even an hour before you commented. This one was fun to put together, especially selecting the music videos.
