Failproof mole traps-What traps actually work?
Trying to find failproof mole traps seems like an exercise in futility at times. Does the picture of this little pest just get you more upset by the minute?
If you have a field or a yard that is completely torn up because of these nasty little critters you know how frustrating the problem can be.
Unfortunately, moles and gophers are common place because we have fewer of their natural predators around due to urbanization. Owls, foxes, crows and weasels are their enemy......
The old "wheel barrow and shovel" routine gets pretty tiresome when they just pop up somewhere else. So what can you do to get rid of these things once and for all?

Will a home made mole trap work just as well?
It's amazing how we look back on things and get a good chuckle. It sure may not have been funny at the time though.A personal situation comes to mind with my kids and their grandfather.
Grandpa and grandma had a house and property in northern California at one time. My son would go out and try to help rid the place of the moles and gophers that seemed to take over.
To this day, I can remember my father in law whacking the critters over the head with a shovel after pumping their burrow full of water with the garden hose. My son thought it was a kick in the pants but you know how boys are. Sadly, the problem just became worse and nothing seemed to work.
If only gramps could have found some failproof mole traps. The destruction would have been kept to a minimum.
Is DIY mole control just as effective as a "professional"?
Aside from the cost involved in having a "professional" come out it is often very hazardous.A "mole control" service will often use some very dangerous chemicals. This is always a concern if you have pets. The typical dog is going to dig in the dirt anyway. It would be terrible to have your family pet get sick.
Many folks get a kick out of standing over mole hills with their shotgun. That may be a great way to relieve some of the stress and get some revenge. Not so sure about how the neighbors might feel about it though.
If you decide to go it alone with some of the mole control products on the market you need to know how to use them correctly. It takes a lot of work to get rid of them too.
Judging by the looks of the the field in the picture above I would say the owner has a lot of work ahead of him (or her). Natural gopher control is an art as much as a science.
How "reliable" and "effective" are the failproof mole traps on the market?
If you type in "mole traps" on Google you will come up with a whole slew of products. Some work pretty well. Many of them don't.As with anything there are always pros and cons. You can spend an awful lot of money trying to find the right trap, pesticide or chemical.
Mole gopher control is often a process of trial and error. You may have to try one of take a chance on one of the products and see if it works.
Going through 5 or 6 different kinds of traps really does get expensive after a while though. It's easy to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars every year if you aren't careful.
