Whatever happened to usury laws? Why are credit card agencies able to charge such a high rate of interest? Wouldn't the stricter enforcement of those laws prevent the predatory debt collection practices?

The video you recommended --- "Maxed Out" by John Spurlock --- is an excellent choice for people who want to learn more about the harsh realities of consumer debt collection in the U.S. The interview with the guys who just opened their new collection agency and are eager to explain how they use illegal methods to coerce payments is priceless.

Collection agencies get a bad wrap for a lot of good reasons. Threats are a bad way to do business for sure....but when someone owes money, they should be responsible for paying that back...Don't forget that not all debt collection agencies are bad and not all who wander are lost

Good advice. Collection agencies abuse the law based upon the ignorance of the customer. A violation of the FDCPA can mean a fine of 1k per occurrence. So, if you are having any problems/ issues with a creditor you should call a knowledgeable lawyer.

When dealing with dbt collecters remember they live for the bluff. Do not share anything or give anything to them that will provide admission of anything. They more often than not will pretend to have info on you to get you to agree or admit and then theirs no going back. Gook Luck!
