Enter the world of Faery

Fairies, Pixies, Elves and Nature Spirits, Gnomes, Jinns and Leprechauns... Stories for kids and yet magical for adults too. On this page I've gathered calendars featuring fairies, angels elves and pixies: from Disney versions to fantasy art for adults (though all is pc).

Many of these calendars are mostly romantic in atmosphere, like the Faeryland 2010 Wall Calendar to the left, but others are beautiful in a less 'perfect' way, telling a story one might almost believe.

16 month Victorian Fairies calendar 2009-2010

September 2009 to December 2010

Fairies 2010 Wall Calendar

The fascination with fairies and the fairy world is best exemplified in the beautiful paintings from the Victorian age. In this collection of thirteen classicly romantic fine art paintings, the illusive inhabitants of the fairy realm come to life.

So, what do you think, should fairies be sexy?

I mean, as nature spirits, I don't think of fairies as sexy. I think of them being illusive, mist like, playful perhaps. But sexy? On the other hand, the Disney version does make a cute wall calendar.

So what do YOU think?

Tinker Bell OR Rackham's Fairy Tales ?

Should fairies be sexy?

Yes, sexy fairies are cute (but not TOO sexy)

clouda9 says:

True fairy flying would be hindered by a skimpy outfit - plus not to mention chilly...however I do like the more 'sexy' look for a fairy as an adult. The Rackham designs are traditional (a good thing) and perfect for the kids or the child in us adults.

KathyMcGraw says:

Sexy is not a word I ever thought of for Tinkerbell, or any Fairie, but some of them are more eye appealing than others to me.

spirituality says:

Perhaps it's simply that I'm a bit of a prude. But look at that dress she's wearing. Would you be comfortable flying around in it?

naturegirl7 says:

I really never thought of Tinker Bell as "sexy", but compared to the pixie like fairies, I guess she was. I definitely prefer more attractive fairies.

HorseAndPony says:

Yes! I believe sexy is in the eye of the beholder. Many people like different things so what's sexy to one person is not to another. So are they sexy to everyone? Probably not but some are attracted to the ultra feminine hair, clothing and mannerisms. Nothing wrong with being thought of as sexy. Sexy and smart are a wicked combination. :)

spirituality says:

I honestly like both - when well executed. Tinkerbell and her friends from Disney do have an appeal: they're cute, they're lively and they're adventurous. Being strong girly women, they're also a good role model for girls. Though of course we can't stay girly all the time.

No, I love the crude pixie like fairies

spirituality says:

Rackham's fairy tales are drawn in a style that appeals to me. Made in the days before beauty meant cute, these beings seem alive in a way that just might be real. I think I've seen some of these when I was a kid - or certainly stuff drawn in that style. The contrast with the cuteness of Pixie Hollow could not be greater, but I love this art.

Cicely Mary Barker Flower Fairies 2010 Calendar

wall calendar and mini wall calendar

Flower Fairies 2010 Wall Calendar $13.99

These classic depictions of fairies by Cicely Mary Barker, the creator of 'The Flower Fairies', capture the beauty of nature in her exact paintings of flowers. She weaves magic with her illustrations of the fairies, which are inspired by the spirit of each flower. The enduring appeal of The Flower Fairies to both collectors and children is the realism not just of the flowers, but the children used to portray the fairies.

Arthur Rackham's Fairy Tales 2010 Wall Calendar

Art & Architecture: Fantasy Art

Rackham's Fairy Tales 2010 Wall Calendar $13.95

The early 20th century was the Golden Age of Illustration. It had become possible through technical advances to produce cheap and accurate reproductions. One of the greatest and most successful artists of this period was Arthur Rackham. His unique, fantastical style combined beauty and an eye for detail.

I personally love how these pictures do NOT strive for perfection, but rather for a sense that all this is real. After all, the real isn't always pretty. Which isn't to say that these illustrations aren't beautiful, they're just not in the usual fairytale glamor. Instead one wonders what the story is behind these characters.
