Do You Believe in Fairies?

Ranked #4,833 in Arts & Design, #76,520 overall

Do you believe fairies are real?

Do you believe in fairies?   Do you have to be a child to believe? Do you have to believe in them before you can see them? Are fairies real or not?

Fairies and fairylike beings are found in cultures around the world, particularly in Britain where fairy faith has long been associated with ancient Celtic beliefs going back as far as fifteen hundred years.

At times, fairies were considered to be remnants of pagan faiths and a source of evil. At other times, they were considered to be good and gentle, secret helpers and inspiring to deserving individuals.

Most believers think fairies possess both good and bad traits in dealing with the human world. Even as sweet and cute as Tinkerbell is, she had that impish side to her too.

"I think, at a child's birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity. "

What are Fairies?

... and where can I find them???

Fairies are often thought of as tiny mystical beings with flowing pastel clothing, impish personalities, and translucent wings.

Connected to the human world through the mysteries of nature, fairies are believed to thrive in rural countrysides. It is not, however, in a fairy's nature to be seen by humans, and it is believed that when they do appear, it is often as quick as a glance, and then they've gone.

Perhaps the only way to see fairies is to believe in their existence and wait for them to reveal themselves to you. The Irish poet, William Butler Yeats (1865- 1939) claimed to have seen fairies and to have been influenced by them many times. He believed that when and if humans see fairies is determined just as much by human feelings towards fairies as by the fairies impulses towards changing their appearance, becoming invisible and their love of trickery.

"When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.   And now when every new baby is born, its first laugh becomes a fairy.   So there ought to be one fairy for every boy or girl. "

~ James Matthew BarriePeter Pan

Quote by John Lennon - (love this...)

"I believe in everything until it's disproved.  So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons.  It all exists, even if it's in your mind.  Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"

It is very possible that there really are fairies and most of us simply have lost the ability to see them just like some people are telepathic and others can see ghosts. Who knows...

Wow - my grandmother was a Scot, and yes she did. When I feel all grown up I don´t believe in them, but most of the time, specially when I am out in the country or writing, yes I most certainly do.

It would be a sad world if we didn't believe in fairies. Just because we've never seen them doesn't mean they don't exist. Great lens.
