HERE'S WHAT I SAY
The FairTax is Better than a Flat Tax
The IRS has gotten lost in its 60,000 pages of tax code and taxpayers are suffering from it. I want a fair tax, and I choose the FairTax plan.
Some people think a flat tax is a good idea. Others want to know what in the world the difference is between the FairTax plan and a flat tax. Some use the two terms interchangeably. Well, they're not the same and I'm going to show you why. And after I do, I'm still going to tell you that the FairTax is better than any flat tax you can throw my way.
You can have your say, too, but at the end of the day I still say the FairTax is better than a flat tax - or any other tax plan.
Quick, What Do You Think?
What's your opinion right now, before I straighten you out with the facts below.
Most people have a quick "yeh, I like it" or "that can never work" opinion about the FairTax. What do you think, right now?

The Book that Got the FairTax Ball Rolling
The FairTax Book (nothing fancy, but it works)
The FairTax Book
Amazon Price: $18.96 (as of 07/12/2009)![]()
If you don't understand the FairTax, this is the book to turn to first. Really, the explanation is simple and fits into this paperback quite well. Easy to read. Great to give as a gift to your representatives in congress.
The Book that Answers the Remaining Questions
Still have questions? Try this handy-dandy sequel to the book above.
FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics
Amazon Price: $11.66 (as of 07/12/2009)![]()
Let's be honest. Neal Boortz and Congressman John Linder got tired of answering the same questions over and over and straightening out so many people who just have the "facts" wrong, so they wrote this book.
If you really want to be able to discuss the FairTax plan thoroughly and be able to answer the questions you get from your boss, neighbors, your friends, and even your congressman, then this is the book for you.
It's cheap. Buy two and share one.
FairTax Facts
You've heard enough fiction on the TV news.
Other than reading the FairTax books, listening to Governor Huckabee explain the FairTax is probably the quickest way to get the basic facts. So, let's turn this debate over to my state's former governor.

Hey, I want you to explore both sides of the issue. If you have them, post links that point out why you think I'm wrong.

No, it's not the same as the FairTax.

Either would be far better than what we have, so I would vote for a flat tax if it were proposed. But my absolute preference would be for a consumption tax only, so FairTax.

The main problem I have with the flat tax is that what do you define as income? Most people's experience is limited to getting a payroll check from their employers, with the appropriate witholdings taken out. The ultra rich don't get a "paycheck" like the rest of Americans. Their income comes from business profits and investments. Many CEOs claim that their salary is $1 per year. Yes, that's ONE dollar. The rest of their income comes from other sources, like stock options, that is considered compensation. It's this compensation that's so easily hidden from the current tax system. Consumption tax solves that. My vote is for the FairTax

I think I love you :) Your lenses are great and I am and have been a very big fan of the fair tax. Personally I believe even a flat tax would be a big improvement over our current system but I really support the flat tax idea.

The fairtax is a consumption tax - you get to keep all of your income and just pay tax on what you SPEND. The flat tax is a tax on income. You just demonstrated that it is not a fair tax - and certainly not a simple tax.
I need to present more documentation here on both. I'll be working on that, so please check back. In the meantime, check your library for The FairTax Book.

No! I'd rather flatten the FairTax!
McMick says:
Either tax would be a huge improvement. I voted for the flat tax as someone who had his own business for years and is familiar with all the trickery, deceit, class warfare etc. that congress uses to prevent either one from happening because only a handful want what's good for America.
Most do not want to give up their power to dispense favors, which gets them reelected; they have absolutely no intention of giving up that power unless we unite and overpower them the way we did with the immigration bill.
There is some movement to get flat tax forces and fair tax forces together to first get a flat tax on the way to a fair tax.
A man named Daniel Mitchell has a Youtube video on this, which I've seen but now cannot locate.
If we do bring about either tax, congress will have to be watched like hawks.
A majority would start immediately trying to get around any restriction on their ability to redistribute the wages of those who earn to their alleged victims, who do not earn.
I am fully behind any effort for either tax, but limiting congress to yearly budget increases that do not economic growth would actually serve us better, if we could make that happen.
We need to start electing 25-30 year olds to fight the seniority and cooperation of exchanging favors between the old men now in control.

Scientology isn't whats wrong with the "fairtax" -- its MATH. Fairtax is a bunch of garbage math. Its like those little pills they sold suckers years ago, advertized to let you use water in your gas tank. Utter nonsense.
Yes -- its that stupid.
Fairtax only works if Math isn't real. For example, almost a trillion dollars that fairtax pretends to be able to collect -- comes from the GOVERNMENT itself.
That's right. The GOVERNMENT will just pay ITSELF a huge sales tax. How stupid can you get?
Neal Boortz wrote in The Fair Tax Book (Page 148) "The federal government ITSELF will become a MAJOR TAXPAYER".
How the hello can the government PAY ITSELF a tax? It would have to WRITE the check.
If governments can just write themselves checks to magically pay 900 billion in taxes - why stop there? Why not a trillion? WHy not 2 trillion? Hello, just leave us alone, let the government pay itself ALL its taxes.
