The Federation For American Immigration Reform (FAIR)

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is a national, nonprofit, public-interest, membership organization of concerned citizens who share a common belief that our nation's immigration policies must be reformed to serve the national interest. FAIR believes America can and must have an immigration policy that is nondiscriminatory and is designed to serve the social, economic and environmental needs of our country.

States, Employers Advance with E-Verify While Feds Continue to Obstruct Program

Excerpts from FAIR's July 6th Legislative Update:

"While states and employers steadily increase their use of E-Verify - the federal program that allows employers to verify the work eligibility of their new hires - the Obama Administration and congressional leadership appear to be undermining the popular and effective program."

"As states like Mississippi and South Carolina expand their E-Verify usage - and employers continue to sign up for the federal verification program in record numbers (USA Today, June 24, 2009) - the White House and the House and Senate majorities have ignored the growing demand for E-Verify. Congress has even seemed at times to be attacking the effective verification program by discouraging employers from using it and blocking its long-term extension. The Obama Administration recently initiated a fourth delay of the Department of Defense rule that would have required most federal contractors to screen all new hires and most employees working on federal contracts with E-Verify."

New Report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform

Below is an excerpt from this new FAIR report:

"After food and water, energy is perhaps the most basic of all human needs. We use it to heat our homes, grow and prepare food, transport people and goods, refine ores into metals, pump water, and manufacture goods. Americans are frequently accused of being excessive energy users, but among nations there exists a strong correlation between per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and energy consumption. One of the underpinnings of the standard of living enjoyed by Americans has been a reliable and relatively low-cost supply of energy.

As a result of the 1997 Kyoto U.N. Climate Change Treaty, considerable public attention has been focused on the issue of energy consumption. The U.S. signed, but has not ratified, this treaty that calls for the U.S. to reduce greenhouse emissions by seven percent below the level in 1990.1 Limiting carbon dioxide emissions - the main greenhouse gas - Is particularly onerous on the U.S. because of its population growth and high per capita energy consumption. While European countries accepted a higher level of reductions (8%), they have relatively stable or, in several cases, declining populations. A look at the relationship between population growth and energy consumption/emissions is instructive."

Amnesty and the Economy: Myths, Lies, and Obfuscation

Recognizing that today's economic conditions and climbing unemployment are a deterrent to any consideration of immigration amnesty legislation, amnesty advocates are trying to persuade the public and Members of Congress that an amnesty for illegal aliens would help the economy. For example, the Immigration Policy Center (IPC) recently issued a report that argues that, "Without comprehensive reform of the immigration system [read amnesty for illegal aliens], our nation cannot experience a full economic recovery." If bold, baseless assertions such as these would win the immigration debate, the debate would be over. This argument spins a fantasyland out of partial and misleading data. Here is how they do it.

Maybe one thing that would help is providing easy access to immigration resources?
