Fairy Flower Gardens

One of the earliest books I remember having read to me was a book filled with macro photos of things in the garden. Although there were never any fairies seen in the pictures, the book described how each of the things in the garden were used by the fairies.

The main thing I remember is how the fuzzy leaves of the bloodroot plant were used as a blanket to keep warm. My mom had a large flower garden (and still does) and so I spent a lot of time outside with the things in the book. It seemed very real.

And that's why my fairies are more "green". They use what they can find and prefer things that are biodegradable. They can be dazzled by glamorous pre-made things, though, just like the rest of us.

I don't know if I believe in fairies these days even though I've had some pretty mystical things happen to me. But as I write this page I'm reminded about how much fun it is to make believe and play with what might be. Maybe they don't exist, but maybe it's okay to pretend they do.
