The original story of Aladdin is a Middle-Eastern folk tale. It concerns an impoverished young ne'er-do-well named Aladdin, in a Chinese city, who is recruited by a sorcerer from the Maghreb, who passes himself off as the brother of Aladdin's late father, convincing Aladdin and his mother of his goodwill by apparently making arrangements to set up the lad as a wealthy merchant.

La Belle et la Bete is a traditional fairy tale. The first published version of the fairy tale was a rendition by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, published in La jeune americaine, et les contes marins in 1740. In the story, a wealthy merchant lived in a mansion with his three daughters, all of whom were very beautiful, but only the youngest, at fourteen, is named Belle for being lovely and pure of heart; her sisters in contrast are wicked and selfish.

Frog Prince Costumes
The Frog King or Iron Heinrich (German: Der Froschkonig oder der eiserne Heinrich), also known as The Frog Prince, is a fairy tale, best known through the Brothers Grimm's written version; traditionally it is the first story in their collection. In the tale, a spoiled princess reluctantly befriends a frog (possibly meeting him after dropping a gold ball into his pond), who magically transforms into a handsome prince.

Gingerbread Man Costumes
In the 1875 St. Nicholas tale, a childless old woman bakes a gingerbread boy who leaps from her oven and runs away. The woman and her husband give chase but fail to catch him. The gingerbread boy then outruns several farm workers and farm animals while taunting them with the phrase:
I've run away from a little old woman,
A little old man,
And I can run away from you, I can!
The tale ends with a fox catching and eating the gingerbread boy who cries as he's devoured, "I'm quarter gone...I'm half gone...I'm three-quarters gone...I'm all gone!" - a detail often omitted in subsequent versions.

Goldilocks Costumes
"The Story of the Three Bears" is a children's story first recorded in narrative form by English author and poet Robert Southey and first published in a volume of his writings in 1837. The same year, writer George Nicol published a version in rhyme based upon Southey's prose tale, with Southey approving the attempt to bring the story more exposure. Both versions tell of three bears and an old woman who trespasses upon their property.

Hansel and Gretel Costumes

The story follows a young brother and sister who discover a house of candy and cake in the forest and a cannibalistic witch. Pinnochio Costumes
Pinocchio is a fictional character that first appeared in 1883, in The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, and has since appeared in many adaptations of that story and others. Carved from a piece of pine by a woodcarver named Geppetto in a small Italian village, he was created as a wooden puppet, but dreamt of becoming a real boy. The name Pinocchio is a Tuscan word meaning "pine nut".

Rapunzel Costumes
"Rapunzel" is a German fairy tale in the collection assembled by the Brothers Grimm, and first published in 1812 as part of Children's and Household Tales. The Grimm Brothers' story is an adaptation of the fairy tale Persinette by Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de La Force originally published in 1698. Its plot has been used and parodied in various media and its best known line ("Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair") is an idiom of popular culture.

Robin Hood Costumes
Robin Hood is a heroic outlaw in English folklore. A highly skilled archer and swordsman, he is known for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor," assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men." Traditionally in films Robin and his men are depicted wearing Lincoln green clothes.
Robin Hood became a popular folk figure starting in medieval times continuing through modern literature, films, and television. In the earliest sources Robin Hood is a commoner, but he was often later portrayed as an aristocrat wrongfully dispossessed of his lands and made into an outlaw by an unscrupulous sheriff.
The very first recorded Robin Hood rhyme, four lines from the early 15th century, beginning: "Robyn hode in scherewode stod".

Seven Dwarves Costumes
The Seven dwarves seem to be adapted from the fable of Snow White and Rose Red.
Snow was born in a small cottage and lived there with her twin sister Rose Red. The girls find a dwarf, whose long beard is stuck on a tree, who explains that he got stuck while he was getting wood for his tea kettle. Snow then cuts his beard, setting the dwarf free. He gets angry at the girls and pull out a treasure bag from the tree.
Unfortunately the dwarf does not do so well in this story and is eventually killed by a bear befriended by the girls.

Sleeping Beauty (French: La Belle au bois dormant, "The Beauty asleep in the wood") is a classic fairy tale which involves a beautiful princess, enchantment and a handsome prince. It is the first in the set published in 1697 by Charles Perrault, Contes de ma Mere l'Oye ("Tales of Mother Goose").

Snow White Costumes
Her character is based on two myths recorded by the Brothers Grimm, Snow-White and Rose-Red and the more famous Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Snow was born in a small cottage and lived there with her twin sister Rose Red. In their youth, they were inseparable, swearing to each other that nothing would ever come between them, but fate would separate them and lead to Snow White's adventures. Although, the dwarves in the real tale are not so nice.

Swan Princess Costumes
Swan Lake (Russian: Lebedinoye Ozero) is a ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed 1875-1876. The scenario, initially in four acts, by Vladimir Begichev and Vasiliy Geltser was fashioned from Russian folk tales as well as an ancient German legend. It tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse.

Thumbelina Costumes
"Thumbelina" (Danish: Tommelise) is a literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a thumb-sized girl and her many adventures before falling in love with a flower-fairy prince just her size. "Thumbelina" is mainly Andersen's invention, although he did take inspiration from tales of miniature people such as "Tom Thumb". The tale was first published by C. A. Reitzel on 16 December 1835 in Copenhagen, Denmark with "The Naughty Boy" and "The Traveling Companion" in the second installment of Fairy Tales Told for Children.

At Christopher's Closet, we believe in the power of 5. Five dollars helps provide materials to rural hospitals to better prepare them when a family is experiencing a still birth. Hand knitted hats, birth certificates, and blankets are given to families who have lost a baby in still birth. Cameras and other supportive materials are donated to the hospitals.
