Tell a Fairy Tale Day: February 26

"Once upon a time..." how many times did we hear stories that began that way when we were children? And how many times have we read it since, to children? Just hearing or reading the words, gives me a warm, nostalgic feeling.

Did you realize that there is a special day called, "Tell a Fairy Tale Day," which is always celebrated on February 26th? It's rather sad to realize that so far in my life I have never celebrated the day. February 26th has come and gone over 70 times in the years of my life and I've missed the big celebration every one of those years.

I Believe There's Time

fairy-tale-sceneSince I'm a firm believer that it is never too late to start doing something you want to do, this year, on February 26, 2012, I'm going to have a big "make up for lost time, "Tell a Fairy Tale Day" celebration. I'm going to make up and make believe.

Once upon a time....
I'll send out beautifully drawn invitations that have smiling forest animals dancing amidst brightly colored flowers with sweetly singing bluebirds flying overhead.

I'll print names on the invitations with glittering rainbow script, and then send the invitations by summoning up some magical perfumed breeze that will swiftly carry the invitations to children eagerly awaiting these special, highly anticipated calls for them to come to my mystical mansion.

Make Up Time

undefinedWe'll play games where everyone wins exciting prizes and then I'll call my trusty Munchkins to serve huge bowls of ice cream in whatever flavor each guest wishes. We'll have a trampoline-sized chocolate cake, covered with whipped frosting and topped with thousands of assorted sprinkles. And everyone can eat all the cake and ice cream that they wish.

We'll watch two hours of brilliant, sparkling fireworks and as each child becomes sleepy, a huge fuzzy Teddy bear will carry them home and tuck them safely in bed. And they'll live happily ever after.........

Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.

My wife and I will watch our 3 yr old as he pretends with his mario and luigi and friend toys. We can only imagine the fun things he's thinking of as he doesn't have a care in the world right now.
