FAIRIES
Fairies are magical little creatures that look remarkably alike people. They are surrounded in mystery and no one seems sure as to exactly where they came from or what they truly are. Some say they are linked to angels, others say they are a creature in their own right, yet others say that they are spirits arrived back from the beyond.
They usually come dressed in the human form, but are smaller in stature than we are, they are generally no larger than four feet in height. Although all fairies have the ability to fly, some have wings, and some do not. Most are beautiful, or very handsome little creatures, and it is this attractiveness that draws us to them. It is believed that they can change their shape whenever they will, so can appear in all matter of form, from a garden toad to a beautiful angelic creature with wings.
Fairies are well known for their mischievous nature.
Some fairies it seems are intentional little tricksters while others just can't seem but to get themselves in and out of trouble on a regular basis. Mischief is just part of their character, it seems that no matter how hard they try to stay out of it, fairies are just out and out right, little teeny weeny trouble makers. They seem to spend the majority of their time getting into all forms of mischief.Now this label or attitude could be accounted for somewhat by a fairies ability to change shapes. Perhaps it is just that we as humans do not trust something that could be one minute disguised as a rock lying at our feet, and in the next moment can change into the shape of a bird and fly from the room, the words that we had just spoken heard and carried away to be shared with others?
There are tales told of fairies who tangle the hair tresses of people who are soundly asleep thereby creating elfin locks for the bearer to wear, tales of items stolen from beneath a persons very eyes, tales of crops that fail for no apparent reason or of people who are led from their chosen pathways by fairies. Other tales involve the stealing of children or even of adults by fairies. There are also whispered warnings of fairies that have stolen the breath from children as they slept, or from the old when they were too weak to ward them off, and it is these dark ideas that keep us leery of a fairies trickster ways.
Protection From A Fairy's Mischievious Ways?
Should one wish to protect their own self and also their family from a fairy's mischief, protection can be acquired by carrying on oneself bread, this very traditional symbol of the home is believed to symbolize the taming of nature. It is therefore disliked by some forms of fairies, and as such, it offers up protection against them. Bells are also said to bring protection, which is an almost ironical idea, because the fairy queen actually adorns her horse in bells?Other forms of protection are four leaf clovers, St.Johns Wart, cold iron, running water and wearing clothing inside out.
We refer to fairies by many names: in Scotland a fairy woman would be termed Bean Nighe, while an Irish name for them is Banshee. They have been termed as gnomes, changelings, sylphs, brownies, gobblins and hobgobblins, elfs and elfin creatures.
All accountings seem to agree on two aspects of fairies, they are magical, and they are mischievous. So take warning, for no matter where they settle in at or what form they decide to appear in, you can be sure that they'll be getting into something that they aren't supposed to........
Banana Bread
Fairies are magical so you never know when they will appear, or where they will be hiding at within your home, even sitting within a bowl of fruit perhaps?Banana Bread
1 1/4 cups mashed bananas
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons oil
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup nuts
Preheat oven to 350%
Blend wet ingredients first. Add dry ingredients and stir until moist batter is formed. Pour into greased and floured loaf pans.
Bake for 55 to 65 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from pan.
Smother in butter.

There is probably a very good reason as to why these little fairies love cherries. Cherries are an amazingly healthy fruit, containing high levels of melatonin, they are also comprised of a little something known as anthocyanins.Anthoscyanins are the bright colored pigment which accounts for the cherry's rich red coloring, it is a powerful antioxidant, and is also credited for having the amazing ability to reduce pain and inflammation.

Kitchen fairies are cute little fairies who move into your home simply because it is a warm and friendly place to visit....Kitchen Fairy and the houseplant listening for "Sweet Nothings".POPCORN BALLS:
1/3 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup light corn syrup
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 quarts of popped popcorn
Put the popped popcorn in a large pan or bowl.
Put water, salt, butter, corn syrup, and sugar in a pot. On medium high heat bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla to mixture. Pour mixture over popcorn while mixing with wooden spoon to insure that popcorn is completely covered.
Coat hands in margarine and quickly form into balls. Wrap balls in plastic wrap to store.

Just watch out for the kitchen fairies. They know a sweet treat when they see one and are always on the hunt for a tasty meal.

Wee Little Fairies........
They love to eat and are always munching on something. If you notice that last piece of pie has disappeared, or that the half full cookie jar is now empty, well you just might be able to figure out who was visiting there. Fairies like to make themselves at home when they find a spot that they like.APPLE CRISP:
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup flour
1 cup oats
1 cup brown sugar
Approx. 4 1/2 cups apples
Cream margarine and brown sugar together. Add next three ingredients and stir till mixture is crumbly.
Mix 1/4 of mixture with apples in baking pan. Pile the remaining crumb mixture on top of the apples in the baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
Cool slightly and serve with ice cream or cream.
